Sic Transit Cycles Reviews
Brought my old mongoose in to replace a stolen wheel and do a tune up/ gear replacement as it had begun to rust up. I came in with the expectation that it would likely be more feasible to look into upgrading and after talking with the repair staff, that is the route I decided to go. The staff was very helpful and spent around 2 hours with me, letting me test ride several models, and after finding one that fit what I was looking for and my price range the staff helped outfit it with some of the accessories from my old bike and a kickstand. They also helped me pick out a helmet, making sure it was a good fit, and shared a lot of knowledge with me about caring for my new bike. After everything the price came out just under my budget which was great. Overall, I'm very happy with my experience here!
May 01, 2025 · Kelsey GreeneBoth men in the shop were very giving of their time and knowledge, and made bicycle rentals a joy. I also bought a combo bike lock there, returned to Chicago, and couldn't figure out how to set the combination. These guys again were super helpful over the phone. I'll be back next time I'm in Ann Arbor. Also, note that their location couldn't be more convenient to the Huron River Trail!
Jun 24, 2025 · Bob CopelandI recently visited Sic Transit with my brand new bike, seeking a repair for faulty rear brakes (likely due to fluid leakage during transit or from the factory). Unfortunately, I was met with a distinctly unwelcoming attitude. The repair technician's disappointment at me not purchasing the bike from their shop was palpable. This wasn't an isolated incident. I've experienced similar condescending behavior from Sic Transit during repairs on my older bikes as well. When paying their premium prices, all I expect is the work to be completed professionally. I don't need to be lectured or scolded as if I'm a child.Instead of addressing the brake issue directly, which I estimated would cost around $40, they insisted on a mandatory 'safety check' and adjustment package for $150. They justified this by claiming that bikes sold by them include this service in the purchase price, implying I was somehow negligent for not buying from them. This felt more like a scolding than helpful customer service.Despite my bike being brand new and likely already having undergone a factory safety check, they refused to repair the brakes unless I agreed to the $150 service. To refuse a repair and hold my bike hostage until I agree to a service that costs as much as my monthly groceries is not only unprofessional, but also feels exploitative.I'm extremely disappointed with the consistent poor service I've received from Sic Transit. It feels like they prioritize upselling and lecturing over addressing immediate repair needs. I would strongly caution anyone considering this shop, especially if they have a bike purchased elsewhere or simply want a straightforward, professional repair experience.
Apr 05, 2025 · Amatya SharmaThe core of a great biking community is a local bike shop. Sic Transit Cycles is the very definition of great service and outstanding value. I will always utilize their service and sales for everything bike related.
May 23, 2025 · Ted WilliamsonNice bike shop with friendly and helpful staff. I really want to love this place, because it seems like the perfect local bike shop, but every time I use their services, I come away more than a little disappointed. My most recent experience is a great example. I took in a wheel with a bent rim to see if they could fix it. After a few days, they let me know that they wouldn't be able to fix it. No problem, I took it in knowing that a fix may not be possible. They were nice enough to offer ordering a replacement for me, so I took them up on it. When I went to pick up the wheel and the replacement, I found out that they had taken the liberty to swap over my brake rotor, axle, and tubeless tire to the new wheel (and charged me for it) even though I had never asked for that and they didn't mention it when they said they would order a replacement. But what really bothered me is that they threw away the wheel I had originally brought in. Again, without asking. I understand that the wheel may not have been worth much if it really wasn't fixable, but that should be my call, not theirs. It wasn't their wheel to throw away! And when I pressed about it, they just shrugged and said there was nothing they could do about it now. It's this kind of poor service mentality and attitude that's been consistent over many years of coming here, and it makes me want to find a more reputable bike shop to patronize.
