We got a Zulu Three awhile back for my son's sixth birthday. Not only has the bike been great, but the customer service has been fantastic as well. I spoke with a friendly and knowledgeable human who picked up the phone before ordering the bike. When we had an issue with a component on the bike almost a year later, Prevelo immediately took care of the problem with absolutely no hassle. Most bikes built for kids are heavy, terrible to ride, and destined to become landfill after moderate use by a single child. The Zulu Three is a proper bike. Durable and serviceable. When our oldest outgrows it, I know his brother will be happy to take it over. When he's done with it, I fully expect it to still be ready for the next lucky kid who gets it. These bikes are well worth the price, and the customer service goes beyond what I'd expect from a local bike shop. ...which puts it light-years beyond anything you're likely to experience with a big-box store. - Jared Kibele

Prevelo Introduce

For families across California looking to ignite a passion for cycling in their children, the search for a truly high-quality, durable, and thoughtfully designed kids' bike can often feel daunting. In Westlake Village, a unique and highly specialized bicycle store, Prevelo, has emerged as a beacon for parents seeking nothing less than the best for their young riders. Prevelo isn't just a bike shop; it's a family-owned business dedicated exclusively to engineering and providing some of the most advanced bikes for kids available. Their commitment goes beyond mere sales, focusing on creating bikes that are lightweight, easy to ride, and built to withstand the rigors of childhood adventures, ensuring that learning and progression on two wheels are as fun and seamless as possible. Since its launch in 2016 by Jacob and Sarah Rheuban, Prevelo has quickly garnered a reputation for outstanding product quality and customer service that sets them apart in the cycling industry.

The extraordinary experiences of real customers vividly illustrate why Prevelo is so highly regarded. One parent raved about their Zulu Three, saying, "Not only has the bike been great, but the customer service has been fantastic as well. I spoke with a friendly and knowledgeable human who picked up the phone before ordering the bike. When we had an issue with a component on the bike almost a year later, Prevelo immediately took care of the problem with absolutely no hassle." This same customer further emphasized the bikes' quality: "Most bikes built for kids are heavy, terrible to ride, and destined to become landfill after moderate use by a single child. The Zulu Three is a proper bike. Durable and serviceable. When our oldest outgrows it, I know his brother will be happy to take it over. When he's done with it, I fully expect it to still be ready for the next lucky kid who gets it. These bikes are well worth the price, and the customer service goes beyond what I'd expect from a local bike shop. ...which puts it light-years beyond anything you're likely to experience with a big-box store." Another customer, even from Canada, was delighted with their experience purchasing an Alpha Zero for their granddaughter: "To our delight the bike arrived this afternoon accompanied by a handwritten thank you note from Tom. The bike's quality is excellent, it's easy to assemble, and the service from the team at Prevelo was outstanding. Within 5-10 minutes our 18 month old was independently wheeling down a carpeted hallway and we look forward to her progress to speeding along outside." These heartfelt reviews highlight Prevelo's unwavering dedication to product excellence and a customer-first approach that resonates deeply with families.

    • Alpha Series (MkIII): All-purpose bikes for varied terrain, from balance bikes (Alpha Zero) to larger models (Alpha One through Alpha Five) with wheel sizes from 12-inch to 26-inch, some featuring hydraulic disc brakes and Balance-Tec conversion systems.
    • Zulu Series: Capable mountain bikes packed with features for small riders, available in wheel sizes from 14-inch to 26-inch, designed for trail riding with high-quality components like hydraulic disc brakes and air-adjustable suspension forks.
    • Bravo Series: Purpose-built dirt jump bikes for pump tracks and bike parks.

  • Expert Sizing Guidance: Prevelo provides detailed sizing tools and expert advice, often prioritizing a slightly smaller fit for new riders to make learning easier and more intimidating, and balancing comfort and control for experienced riders. They emphasize using inseam measurements for the most accurate fit.

Prevelo stands out significantly within the cycling market, especially for parents in California, due to several unique features and highlights that underpin its philosophy and product quality.

  • Kid-First Engineering and Design: Prevelo's core mission is to build bikes specifically for children, not just scaled-down adult bikes. This means everything from lightweight frames (often 6061 aluminum) and low center-of-gravity geometry to kid-optimized cockpits with ultra-small diameter grips and short-reach brake levers. This meticulous design ensures that bikes are easy for small hands to control, inspiring confidence and making learning to ride fun and effective.

  • Exceptional Durability and Longevity: A recurring theme in customer reviews is the incredible durability of Prevelo bikes. They are built to be "proper bikes," "Durable and serviceable," designed to last through multiple children, making them a wise investment for families. This contrasts sharply with many mass-produced kids' bikes that often end up in landfills quickly.

  • Unparalleled Customer Service: The level of customer service provided by Prevelo is consistently praised as "fantastic" and "outstanding," going "beyond what I'd expect from a local bike shop." Examples include immediate, hassle-free resolution of component issues, proactive outreach, personalized touches like handwritten thank you notes and even birthday cards with capes. This commitment to customer delight is a major differentiator.

  • Advanced Components and Technology: Prevelo bikes incorporate high-quality components often found on adult bikes, such as sealed cartridge bearings, high-volume Kenda Booster tires, and hydraulic disc brakes on many models (Alpha Three, Four, Five, and Zulu series). The new MkIII Alpha series includes clutch-style derailleurs for fewer chain drops and weight reductions across all models. Their proprietary HEIR components further enhance performance and child-specific ergonomics.

  • Balance-Tec System: Featured on Alpha One and Two, this patent-pending system allows for quick conversion between a balance bike and a pedal bike on the same frame, providing a seamless learning progression without compromising pedaling performance.

  • Family-Owned and Operated: Being a family business run by "Moms and Dads" ensures an authentic understanding of what parents need in a kids' bike and fosters a relatable, caring approach to their products and customers.

  • "Well Worth the Price": While a premium product, customers consistently affirm that Prevelo bikes are "well worth the price" due to their quality, durability, and the exceptional long-term value they offer, especially when considering they can be passed down to younger siblings.
