Aug 19, 2024 · Wakim Brice-RobinsonVisiting Burlington for the first time. We were going to rent bikes by the marina, but we're a little pricey, so we decided to walk north on the trail and turn around. Luckily for us, we stumbled upon Betty's Bikes. She had just opened up, and it was a Sunday. The weather earlier in the week forced her to close earlier those days, so she was making up some business hours. It is a small business, totally get it. We asked if they rented bikes, and they did. There were 4 of us, and she was able to accommodate our needs. Had locks if we needed and helmets. The prices were significantly cheaper, granted they were not brand new bikes, but what she had on inventory there. I highly recommend this place. The bikes were in great working condition. No issues. And it is just right off the rails to trail.

Aug 13, 2023 · Xin PengWent to buy a bike after talking to the owner on FB marketplace. I got there at the time which we had agreed on several days before and found out that the rear brake had broken during a test ride and still needed to be fixed. I sat there for over an hour as this happened, and noticed that it wasn't shifting correctly when I tested it. I was told this would be fixed by spraying WD-40 in the problem shifter and/or cleaning it. It did not fix that, but I was assured it would if I waited.I took the bike home, and then upon further use and inspection found that: both derailleurs were misaligned, causing constant chain skips under load, the front shifter was completely destroyed (she sprayed it with WD-40 and said to wait for that to fix it, which it did not), the rear wheel had nipples that were stripped and had to be replaced to true the wheel, the rear cassette was worn and needed to be replaced, and the chain was stretched enough to need to be replaced. If this had been said up front, I wouldn't have had much of a problem; I got the bike for cheap and it was otherwise what I wanted. But it was advertised as "refurbished", with the description saying "any worn parts have been replaced for years of riding enjoyment". A non-functional worn-down shifter, chain, and nipples were not replaced, and needed to be for long term use.I like the mission of the business, but the problem with having under-or-unpaid trainees/apprentices doing work is that things like this get through. The long wait to fix something on a bike which the owner had advance warning would be sold (and agreed to the pick up time on) combined with the unsatisfactory state of the bike itself really soured me.If I need a cheap frame for a project, fine, but a functional 'buy it and ride away without a thought' bike this was not.
Sep 11, 2024 · Orik StonefistI had a great experience! Julie, granddaughter of the original Betty was extremely helpful. I am a year-round commuter and recently had my prized-bike stolen. Julie took sympathy and set me up with this ultra-sweet Specialized Tarmac, knocking $40 off the already low-asking price.I walked out with a heavy duty kevlar/chain dual-lock and all the lights I needed for $400. It helped me make the best of a bad situation and I have a bike now that I'm equally satisfied with compared to my $1,000 stolen one. Her expertise and care were a nice foil to some pretty bad times. She made all of the adjustments needed for my height on site following a test-ride and I'm thrilled with everything, the bike, the service and her kind attitude toward a fellow cyclist in need. She included my first tune-up (if needed) in the price, so definitely a 5-star experience. Thanks Julie!
