Peregrine Bicycle Studio specializes in high-end, personalized cycling services, with a strong emphasis on precision and client-specific solutions. Their approach is appointment-based, ensuring dedicated one-on-one attention for each client. Here are the core services offered:
- Comprehensive Bike Fitting & Cycling Analysis: This is their primary specialty. Led by Adam Kaplan, they offer in-depth bike fitting sessions that go beyond basic adjustments. They use a fit lab and established protocols, informed by over 20 years of experience, to analyze a rider's biomechanics, optimize position for comfort and performance, and address issues like pain or numbness. This includes adjustments to cleat placement, saddle height and position, handlebar drop and reach, and stem height. They cater to all skill levels, from beginners to very experienced riders.
- Custom Bicycle Builds: As a "fit-first" shop, they specialize in building custom bicycles from bare frames. After a comprehensive fit session to determine the optimal solution for a client, a new bike is ordered from their vendor network and meticulously built to suit individual specifications. They work with a variety of high-end frame materials and brands, including Titanium (Moots, Serotta, Seven Cycles, Stinner Frameworks), Steel (Colnago, Officina Battaglin, Scarab Cycles, Stinner Frameworks), Carbon Fiber (Argon 18, BMC, Colnago, Enve, Orbea, Parlee Cycles, Pivot, Time), and Mixed Material.
- Bicycle Maintenance and Repairs: Headed by Saj Rudolf, the studio offers comprehensive bicycle maintenance and repair services. They aim for quick turnaround, often within 24 hours for full tune-ups, and handle everything from basic adjustments to complex overhauls. Customers are encouraged to call the shop to book service appointments due to high demand.
- High-Quality Cycling Apparel and Gear: They offer a selection of premium cycling apparel, notably from Assos of Switzerland, known for high-performance bibs and clothing. They also carry bike-packing bags and gear from reputable brands like Big Agnes, Ortlieb, and Brooks.
- Display/Demo Bicycles: While new bikes are typically ordered after a fit session, they often have a selection of display, demo, or closeout bikes on the floor for clients to view and potentially purchase.
- Expert Consultation: Adam Kaplan handles cycling analysis, bike fit, and sales, offering expert advice to guide clients through the process of selecting and optimizing their cycling equipment.
Peregrine Bicycle Studio distinguishes itself within the Illinois cycling landscape through its specialized focus and commitment to excellence, making it a unique and highly sought-after resource:
- Unrivaled Bike Fitting Expertise: This is their core strength. Adam Kaplan's extensive experience (20+ years) and the studio's dedicated fit lab ensure precise and impactful adjustments that lead to "free watts" and a "world of difference" in comfort and performance, even for experienced riders who thought they had no major issues. This level of detail is rare.
- Personalized, Appointment-Based Service: The appointment-based system ensures that each client receives dedicated, one-on-one attention without distractions, fostering a truly customized experience. This allows for deep dives into individual needs and issues.
- Exceptional Craftsmanship for Custom Builds: Saj Rudolf's "flawless" craftsmanship and "attention to detail" in the build process are highly praised. The ability to guide clients through frame selection and build a bike "dialed to perfection" is a significant highlight, especially when unexpected issues (like an initial frame not working) arise.
- Problem-Solving and Client Advocacy: As evidenced by a review, Adam "went above and beyond to help me find the right replacement" frame when an initial one didn't work. This proactive, client-focused problem-solving is a testament to their dedication.
- High-End Product Offerings: Their curated selection of premium bicycle brands (Moots, Serotta, Colnago, etc.) and high-quality apparel (Assos) caters to cyclists who prioritize performance, durability, and a superior riding experience.
- Passion and Care for Cyclists: Reviewers consistently describe the team as "passionate experts who truly care about getting you on the best possible bike for you." This genuine enthusiasm and commitment create a welcoming and trustworthy environment.
- Quick Service Turnaround: Despite the bespoke nature of their work, they strive for efficient service, with tune-ups typically turned around within 24 hours, which is excellent for a specialized studio.

Peregrine Bicycle Studio Reviews
Had an amazing experience getting a bike fit with Adam. I have been riding for years and never had any major issues, but wanted to find those marginal gains through improved fit. Adam was spot on with his analysis and those minor tweaks really felt like a world of difference. Going out for a ride afterwards really felt like getting free watts. A bike fit is more than simply stack/reach/saddle height to get you to your optimal position. I really can't recommend Adam/Peregrine enough. There just isn't a reason not to come in to get a fit, no matter where you are on your cycling journey.
Jun 27, 2025 · TadI had an absolutely phenomenal experience at Peregrine Bike Studio thanks to Adam and Saj. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in great hands.I initially came in for a bike fit with Adam, who was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and precise. He took the time to walk me through every detail of the fit, making thoughtful adjustments that immediately improved my comfort and performance.During the build process, it became clear that the initial frame I brought in just wasn’t going to work—but instead of leaving me stranded, Adam went above and beyond to help me find the right replacement. He guided me through the search for a new frame, offered expert advice, and most impressively, kept me consistently updated on timelines and progress.Once the new frame arrived, Saj took over the build, and the result was flawless. His craftsmanship and attention to detail were evident in every part of the bike. Everything was smooth, clean, and dialed to perfection.Peregrine Bike Studio isn’t just a shop—it’s a team of passionate experts who truly care about getting you on the best possible bike for you. I can’t recommend Adam, Saj, and the entire studio highly enough. If you're serious about cycling, this is the place to go.
May 09, 2025 · Mario MendezPeregrine Bicycle Studio is the best bike shop in the city. In 13 years of living in Chicago, this is probably my 5th bike shop. Adam, the owner, is incredible and extremely knowledgeable.I’ve gone to Peregrine for the past 3 years now. The pandemic hit, my gym closes down, and I needed a trainer for my bike at home. Due to supply restraints, no one had one! It took me months, and I finally stumbled on Peregrines site. Adam had fore thought and had several available. Luckily, that was the fate.At the time, I was training for Ironman Portugal. Adam fitted my current bike and serviced it thoroughly. He took the time to explain everything to me throughout the process. For the race, I needed a travel case, so he rented me my first one and dissembled and resembled my bike. When I looked into getting a triathlon bike, Adam was there again! He sold me a Paralee and walked me through a bike fitting to order the bike specific to my measurements. He also recommended a 3rd party company to purchase a travel bag through. As I’m still new to the cycling aspect of triathlons, he has helped me so much over the years. I truly appreciate the time and attention that he gives to everyone. If you are looking for a bike shop in Chicago, Peregrine should be your first stop.
Apr 25, 2023 · Samuel CiochonEvery once in a while you stumble upon a business that is so well run and the service so exceptionally attentive that you can’t believe your own good fortune. That’s been my experience with Peregrine. The professionalism, responsiveness, and quality of the work done by Adam and Saj is unbeatable. As others have shared, Adam’s attention to the bike fit is particularly outstanding and has made my cycling experience so much more enjoyable. If you have any concern that this shop may be too performance focused (or if you’ve read the elitist review), please let me assuage your concerns. I first walked into Peregrine as a complete cycling novice, without enough knowledge to even recognize my own mistakes. Adam helped me figure out where I went wrong when buying a secondhand bike on marketplace and worked with me on another build with an appropriate fit. If that wasn’t enough, we were able to repurpose the smaller frame for my partner and do it all at a cost and level that made it easier to live with the initial mistake of buying a too small bike. At no point in the process did I feel feel like Peregrine was anything other than happy to assist me. Thanks to them, there are two more cyclists who can’t wait to get out and ride. I can’t imagine going anywhere else for bike related services!
Oct 22, 2024 · Evan LonerganFor any serious cyclist this should be your go-to shop for bike fits, advice, and maintenance. These guys are awesome. I had a full fit recently with Adam who was able to quickly diagnose and solve some long standing issues with my knee alignment (after 2 other fits he was the first to suggest wedges). With some quick adjustments to cleats, stem, and new handlebars it is like I have a new bike and saw an immediate improvement in power numbers and comfort. During pickup they even noticed my derailleur hanger was slightly bent which Saj quickly straightened out no prob. Can't recommend these guys enough for anything bike related.Update: They built an awesome Parlee RZ7 for me. Even managed a wheel swap to get my bike a few months early. Happily going into cycling season with a new dialed in ride. Cheers!
