Had an amazing experience getting a bike fit with Adam. I have been riding for years and never had any major issues, but wanted to find those marginal gains through improved fit. Adam was spot on with his analysis and those minor tweaks really felt like a world of difference. Going out for a ride afterwards really felt like getting free watts. A bike fit is more than simply stack/reach/saddle height to get you to your optimal position. I really can't recommend Adam/Peregrine enough. There just isn't a reason not to come in to get a fit, no matter where you are on your cycling journey. - Tad

Peregrine Bicycle Studio specializes in high-end, personalized cycling services, with a strong emphasis on precision and client-specific solutions. Their approach is appointment-based, ensuring dedicated one-on-one attention for each client. Here are the core services offered:

  • Comprehensive Bike Fitting & Cycling Analysis: This is their primary specialty. Led by Adam Kaplan, they offer in-depth bike fitting sessions that go beyond basic adjustments. They use a fit lab and established protocols, informed by over 20 years of experience, to analyze a rider's biomechanics, optimize position for comfort and performance, and address issues like pain or numbness. This includes adjustments to cleat placement, saddle height and position, handlebar drop and reach, and stem height. They cater to all skill levels, from beginners to very experienced riders.
  • Custom Bicycle Builds: As a "fit-first" shop, they specialize in building custom bicycles from bare frames. After a comprehensive fit session to determine the optimal solution for a client, a new bike is ordered from their vendor network and meticulously built to suit individual specifications. They work with a variety of high-end frame materials and brands, including Titanium (Moots, Serotta, Seven Cycles, Stinner Frameworks), Steel (Colnago, Officina Battaglin, Scarab Cycles, Stinner Frameworks), Carbon Fiber (Argon 18, BMC, Colnago, Enve, Orbea, Parlee Cycles, Pivot, Time), and Mixed Material.
  • Bicycle Maintenance and Repairs: Headed by Saj Rudolf, the studio offers comprehensive bicycle maintenance and repair services. They aim for quick turnaround, often within 24 hours for full tune-ups, and handle everything from basic adjustments to complex overhauls. Customers are encouraged to call the shop to book service appointments due to high demand.
  • High-Quality Cycling Apparel and Gear: They offer a selection of premium cycling apparel, notably from Assos of Switzerland, known for high-performance bibs and clothing. They also carry bike-packing bags and gear from reputable brands like Big Agnes, Ortlieb, and Brooks.
  • Display/Demo Bicycles: While new bikes are typically ordered after a fit session, they often have a selection of display, demo, or closeout bikes on the floor for clients to view and potentially purchase.
  • Expert Consultation: Adam Kaplan handles cycling analysis, bike fit, and sales, offering expert advice to guide clients through the process of selecting and optimizing their cycling equipment.

Peregrine Bicycle Studio distinguishes itself within the Illinois cycling landscape through its specialized focus and commitment to excellence, making it a unique and highly sought-after resource:

  • Unrivaled Bike Fitting Expertise: This is their core strength. Adam Kaplan's extensive experience (20+ years) and the studio's dedicated fit lab ensure precise and impactful adjustments that lead to "free watts" and a "world of difference" in comfort and performance, even for experienced riders who thought they had no major issues. This level of detail is rare.
  • Personalized, Appointment-Based Service: The appointment-based system ensures that each client receives dedicated, one-on-one attention without distractions, fostering a truly customized experience. This allows for deep dives into individual needs and issues.
  • Exceptional Craftsmanship for Custom Builds: Saj Rudolf's "flawless" craftsmanship and "attention to detail" in the build process are highly praised. The ability to guide clients through frame selection and build a bike "dialed to perfection" is a significant highlight, especially when unexpected issues (like an initial frame not working) arise.
  • Problem-Solving and Client Advocacy: As evidenced by a review, Adam "went above and beyond to help me find the right replacement" frame when an initial one didn't work. This proactive, client-focused problem-solving is a testament to their dedication.
  • High-End Product Offerings: Their curated selection of premium bicycle brands (Moots, Serotta, Colnago, etc.) and high-quality apparel (Assos) caters to cyclists who prioritize performance, durability, and a superior riding experience.
  • Passion and Care for Cyclists: Reviewers consistently describe the team as "passionate experts who truly care about getting you on the best possible bike for you." This genuine enthusiasm and commitment create a welcoming and trustworthy environment.
  • Quick Service Turnaround: Despite the bespoke nature of their work, they strive for efficient service, with tune-ups typically turned around within 24 hours, which is excellent for a specialized studio.
