Patio Bike Shop specializes in providing essential services that prioritize the longevity and functionality of your bicycle, with a clear emphasis on expert repair and honest assessments.
- Bicycle Repair and Maintenance: This is a core strength of Patio Bike Shop. They are highly praised for their ability to repair bikes, even older models, and for their willingness to salvage parts to reduce costs. Examples include fixing "rear cassette issues" and undertaking complex repairs where other shops might simply recommend a new bike. Their service is described as "quick" (fixed in 3 days) and "very reasonably priced," often less than half of competitors' quotes.
- Part Salvage and Cost-Effective Solutions: A unique aspect of their repair service is their dedication to salvaging usable parts and only replacing what is strictly necessary. This approach significantly reduces repair costs for customers, making bicycle ownership more affordable and sustainable.
- New Bicycle Sales (Potential): While their primary reputation is for repairs, customer reviews suggest they do engage in sales. One customer mentioned, "I might buy the next bike from here," indicating that new bike sales are part of their offering, though perhaps not with the same emphasis on flashy showrooms as larger retailers.
- Expert Assessment and Honest Advice: The staff at Patio Bike Shop provides straightforward and honest advice regarding bike repairs. They focus on what the bike truly needs rather than pushing unnecessary upgrades or new purchases, earning customer trust.
Patio Bike Shop stands out with several distinct features and highlights that make it a unique and highly valued establishment for Wisconsin cyclists.
- Unconventional, Honest Approach: This is not a "shiny" or "ordinary bike shop." Its primary highlight is its down-to-earth, no-frills, and incredibly honest approach to bicycle service. They prioritize the actual repair and longevity of the bike over sales rhetoric.
- Exceptional Repair Expertise: Customers consistently laud their repair capabilities, particularly their willingness and skill in fixing older bikes and tackling challenging issues (like a rear cassette problem or a relative's bike that other shops didn't want to repair). This expertise extends to identifying and salvaging usable parts, making repairs more economical.
- Cost-Effectiveness: A significant highlight is their "very reasonably priced" services, often charging "less than half of the cost that WS had quoted." This commitment to affordability makes quality bike repair accessible to a broader range of customers.
- Quick Turnaround Time: Repairs are noted to be "quick," with one instance of a bike being fixed in just three days, which is impressive for a busy repair shop.
- Genuine Passion for Bikes: Reviews suggest the people at Patio Bike "love bikes." This passion translates into dedicated, meticulous repair work, ensuring that every bicycle receives the care it deserves.
- Support for Local/Independent Business: Customers recognize and appreciate the opportunity to support a genuinely local and independent business, which offers a different experience than larger chain stores.
- Focus on Repair over Sales: Unlike some shops that might push for new purchases, Patio Bike Shop is eager to repair existing bikes, even those deemed too old or difficult by others, making them a true problem-solver for the community.

Patio Bike Shop Reviews
This is not your ordinary bike shop.If you are looking for a shiny "Wheel & Sprocket (WS)" experience, you will not get it here. If you want a down to earth, honest, bicycle loving experience, then this place might be for you. It all depends on how you set your expectations (like most things in life).I took a relatives bike in for a repair estimate. I had previously been to WS, where they didn't really want to repair the bike (were anxious to show me all the new models). When I took the bike, here they were eager to fix the bike, with only the necessary parts, and salvaging all the parts that they could. They ended up charging less than half of the cost that WS had quoted. And they had it fixed in 3 days! The people at Patio Bike appear to love bikes, and maybe more than people. What I mean by that is that they did an amazing job with bike repair (I don't know about Sales), but their customer service skills may not be what you'd expect. They are not great as schmoozing. And some of their processes might seem antiquated (claim checks, credit card processing, etc).I would not hesitate to go back for a repair, and I might buy the next bike from here. It's always good when you can find a way to support a local/independent business.Good luck!
Sep 21, 2024 · Scott WI have an old bike that had rear cassette issues and they fixed it on the spot for far less than I expected.Great staff. When this bike breaks down beyond repair from this shop I'll definitely be buying my new bike from them.
May 19, 2025 · James Rodefer JThey were fast, skilled and educated. I needed a repair and advice. I'm fairly new to bike maintenance but they helped me tremendously. My bike is riding better than ever after they worked on my rear wheel. They gave me a lot of helpful tips and information about maintaining it. Their prices were fair and affordable.
Oct 03, 2024 · Alex BollExtremely happy customer! I’m a big man and had to get an odd part for a plus-size bike. They had it in stock and for less than Amazon. On another bike they fixed a flat, but rather than replacing with the stock tube they asked me some questions and recommended a beefier tube. Totally glad they did. Also I had shoddy shifter work done at Erik’s that never worked quite right. Turns out it was broken. The folks at Patio took a look, asked a few questions, and instead of replacing the stock part recommended heavier parts. Again, they had my unusual parts in stock and had it working better than new much sooner than promised for less than their estimate. AND they tightened up some other things I didn’t ask them to and bike is working better than new. The place isn’t fancy but these folks know what they’re doing. Extremely happy they took the time to ask me questions and worth every penny in my book.
Aug 19, 2020 · Ian ThomsonMy partner and I took our bikes in a few days ago for a tune-up and while the mechanics may be good and the turnaround time is much quicker than other bike shops in the area, the experience my partner had picking them up today leaves a sour taste. When she went in to pick them up they immediately asked for the claim tickets they ripped off a pad of paper when we dropped them off (think old school coat check). She didn't have them on her and they said they were required to get our bikes. Luckily she found them in her car otherwise they wouldn't have been able to release our bikes?! What would they have done if we lost them? They only had our name and phone number. Upon paying for the tune-up and using her credit card in a chip machine the lady took her card and ran it through an old school carbon copy credit card machine that imprinted the cards info on to paper. She then took her card and wrote down all of the credit card number, her name, exp date and security code on a piece of paper in addition to this. Upon asking what they do with that paper the lady says they staple it to the receipt and lock it in a room (meaning there are probably hundreds of peoples credit card info in an office somewhere there since they don't throw them away or shred it). She asked if one of the guys could help her load the bikes on to the bike rack since it was my car and my rack that she was unfamiliar with and they just starred and said they weren't able to because we live in a "lawsuit society". They continued to watch her try to load the bikes while not helping until she said that they could leave and she would figure it out. Not only are they non-compliant with credit card laws but their customer service is severely lacking. Sucks because we wanted to help out a local business but we will not be returning here for any future services.
