Turin Bicycle Reviews
I absolutely love this place. All the bike nerds who work here are lovely and so smart and quick. They always explain everything to me and try to find the best/quickest/most affordable way to fix things. Yesterday John fixed my grindy gears in 15 minutes and only charged me $15. I'm a chick who doesn't know much about bike mechanics but I love biking and I'll always bring my massive Trek here.
May 26, 2025 · Chelsea DubickI brought my bike in after not riding all winter. I said I wasn’t sure if my tires were flat or If they needed to be replaced and asked if I could just leave it, but Ella said just wait one minute and she filled my tires (something I could of and probably should of done myself). She was so sweet and friendly about it. I have taken my bike here many times to have flats fixed and the entire staff has always been so helpful and quick. There are also cute boys there.
Mar 28, 2025 · Kaitlin BeardsleyUPDATED: Good Ebike store on Elston nearby since owner is scared of ebikesHow to lose a customer in 300 seconds:I've been coming to Turin bikes for the last two years for regular maintenance work on my previous ebike. It was basically a mountain bike with a battery slapped on, so it wasn't tremendously complicated. The team there had been absolutely awesome about helping me keep my bike running. They understood it was my preferred main transportation and worked hard anytime it was in the shop to get it back to me asap. They noticed I kept having issues with punctures from road hazards and suggested a protective tire liner to reduce the number of flats I was getting. My tires were large 26" and they went out of their way to order these special for me. Anytime they came across something with my bike's electronics, they were upfront if they thought it was something out of their wheelhouse and would suggest a workaround. I loved that they were so close to my work and home so I could easily get my bike to them for maintenance. I have nothing but awesome things to say about the dedicated young team that works at this shop. Then my bike was stolen. It happens. I got a new one bike, a cargo ebike in a moped style. Was enjoying it greatly until a distracted parked driver "doored" me as I was coming home. My bike was damaged, breaking the handle on a brake and bending my pedals and crankshaft so the chain wouldn't stay on. None of the electronics were damaged, only the physical, mechanical components of the bike. When I arrived at Turin bikes on a Saturday, a man outside the store asked me about my bike. I was excitedly showing him that it could store an escooter in it while riding (my plan to get home), that it had a 550lbs capacity (so easily two medium-sized riders). As I was showing my bike, an older man whom I had never seen at the shop in the two years I had been coming, stepped out and looked my bike over. I came to understand this older man was the owner later. Thinking I was talking to another person interested in my bike, I began explaining it to him. His first question was if this was a "house" bike. It took me a second to understand what he was even talking about, but he made it clear I "didn't buy this bike from them," and it is, therefore, not a "house" bike. I said it was from amazon, a third party seller, and he made mention that they were more cheaply made and parts are sometimes special made (all valid points) but I needed a new handbrake lever and for my pedals, crankshaft, and chain to be replaced and realigned. He said that since they were connected in some way to the electronics of the bike, he couldn't work on them or attempt to replace the physical components. The older man said he didn't want me to bring the bike into the store, I wasn't attempting to, but this struck me as strange just because the owners obvious bias against "non-house ebikes" was defintely showing. He said they didn't have a rig that could support my bike for them to work on, and I would need to try a new shop. So in under about five minutes of arriving at the shop, the older gentleman has been insulting, told me my non-house bike was cheaply made, not allowed in his store, and I should go somewhere else. He suggested a bike shop three miles north in Rogers Park. I mentioned that I had brought my previous ebike to the store several times for work, and he seemed surprised. I said that it was more in the traditional mountain bike style, and he went in to get a technician to look over my bike. This was at least someone I recognized from before, one of the techs I had spoken to in person and seen behind the counter in the two years I patroned the store. He politely said what the older man did about the components being in the way and suggested the store three miles north again. I didn't ask about the tire liners at this point. I had never seen this older man before then at the store but I get it, my bike wasn't a "house" bike. I'll go elsewhere."It takes years to make life long customer and seconds to lose one forever"
May 03, 2025 · nounanvowel adverbanjunctQuoted $15-20 for drilling out a single screw that broke off in the hole near my rear hub, the one for mounting a rear rack. I figured instead of buying $15-20 worth of drill bits and doing it myself, I’d let a bike shop do it since it’d be quicker. Instead, it took 5 days and the shop charged me $60. Wish I would’ve done it myself now. The five day period, to be fair, is because the shop is very busy in the spring for tune-ups, I don’t hold that against them. Just sucks to pay 1/5 the cost of my entire bike for drilling out one screw. Staff was friendly though, just too pricey.
Apr 19, 2025 · Jeremy ClevelandThey made my unicycle look brand new! Also LOL for yall, when I “jumped down” from the unicycle in the store after sharing, my phone triggered a response to my car insurance thinking I was in a car accident and they were blowing up my phone to see if I was ok!
