Ridge Cyclery

3731 Ridge Rd #2092, Highland, IN 46322, USA

3.0
The shop is a diamond in the rough. It has all the hallmarks of being a phenomenal shop, mostly it is one of two locally owned bike shops. Which makes it an interesting proposition. You have Ridge and Greenway. That's it. You have two other mega corporate brands to purchase from, if that is your sort of thing, it isn't mine. It's a shop trapped in time. It has ultimate potential for growth if it wanted to.I've purchased a bunch of random parts needed for my bikes, but I will say, I know he has some parts for my 1973 Schwinn, but the owner has not really engaged much with me about it. If he has Vintage bikes in boxes, I know he has parts that would suit my Continental well.I've even purchased a pre-owned Fixed Gear/Single Speed bike, along with a child's Fuji Bike for my son. I travel to a lot of other bike shops, the day I stopped in to buy some cycling kit it was my 5th Bike Shop of the day. In other shops, you can feel the passion and excitement for the industry and the sport.I must say I want get on board with telling people about the great experience they will have coming to this shop. The service is good, but not memorable, what is memorable is how much potential this place has, but isn't really driving home how amazing they can be.Tap into being great! - ICY MIKE

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals

For locals in Indiana, particularly those residing in Highland and the surrounding Northwest region, **Ridge Cyclery** presents a unique and somewhat complex option for their cycling needs. Its most compelling suitability lies in its status as a long-standing, locally owned business. For many Indiana residents, supporting local enterprises is a priority, and Ridge Cyclery, with its 50 years of history, embodies this spirit. The shop offers a comprehensive range of services, from basic tire changes to complete overhauls, catering to a wide array of bicycle types, including new, pre-owned, and even vintage models. This breadth of service, combined with competitive pricing for tune-ups, makes it a practical choice for routine maintenance and repairs.

The potential availability of vintage bike parts is a significant draw for a niche but dedicated segment of the cycling community, distinguishing it from more modern, mass-market alternatives. Furthermore, the fact that it is one of only two locally owned bike shops in the area underscores its importance in providing a non-corporate, community-oriented option for bicycle sales and service.

However, it is crucial for potential Indiana customers to approach Ridge Cyclery with a balanced perspective, considering the varied customer experiences. While some reviews suggest "good service" and acknowledge the shop's "diamond in the rough" potential, others highlight significant concerns regarding customer engagement and attitude. A review describing an unhelpful and "ignorant" staff member regarding e-bike derailleur adjustments and specific product inquiries points to inconsistencies in customer service. This means that while the technical services may be robust, the customer interaction might vary. For locals, this suggests that while Ridge Cyclery offers undeniable practical benefits as a full-service bike shop, managing expectations regarding interpersonal aspects may be advisable.

Ultimately, Ridge Cyclery is suitable for Indiana locals who prioritize supporting independent businesses, require comprehensive repair services for a variety of bikes (including vintage models), and are willing to engage with a shop that, while technically capable, might benefit from more consistent and enthusiastic customer interaction. Its long history and dedication to bicycle service provide a solid foundation, making it a viable option for those in the Highland area seeking a local alternative for their cycling adventures.
