High Desert East Reviews
Fabulous selection of bikes. Something for everyone. The staff loves riding and really wants everyone to have a safe and positive riding experience! My go-to shop for mechanical work - fair pricing and quality service.
Apr 07, 2025 · Grover ShellTotal predatory behavior. I brought my bike in for a derailleur adjustment and walked out the door with a bill for $86.$31 to adjust a derailleur hanger is criminal.$31 to adjust a derailleur is also outrageous.$21 to tighten a cassette is highway robbery.I work on my own bikes all the time and just needed a sanity check on an adjustment. I’ll never go here again. Do yourself a favor and go to Bikeworks. They are super cool, crazy knowledgeable and under charge.
Apr 05, 2025 · Ethan ReedThis is a fantastic bike shop! We were here visiting during the Albuquerque balloon fiesta and something happened to our valve stem so we had to replace the tire. Called the shop. They were not sure if they could work us in. We got there about 20 minutes later they fixed the tire - friendly people, fantastic bike shop, professional, and reasonably priced. We highly recommend
Oct 04, 2023 · Mike and Kath RI purchased an e-bike online and when I got it the bike came damaged. The online retailer instructed me to bring it in to a bike shop for repairs and they would cover the costs. I called ahead and spoke to someone here who told me to bring the bike in and they would be able to take a look at it and get it quickly fixed or scheduled. I was able to bring it in today and when I wheeled the bike inside I was immediately told they don’t service any e-bikes except certain e-bike brands (Specialized and something else I think). He told me that’s because lots of these e-bike brands that have popped up recently have cheap foreign parts that are difficult to order and repair. As a result they have this policy with no exceptions. My bike isn’t some random brand, it’s a Yamaha bike. It would have been fine if the person I talked to on the phone would have told me of this policy, but he did not. I found this experience very frustrating and I felt mislead and then taken on a wild chase for no reason. I would not recommend this bike shop in general. Instead I took my bike to kickstand Cycles. They were much more professional in their treatment of me and were understanding and helpful. Additionally, they were very reasonable priced. I would recommend them instead!
May 11, 2024 · Max FeltAh, the infamous southwestern goat head stickers—nature's way of saying, "Welcome to the desert, now enjoy your flat tires!" After my third flat tube, I decided it was time to embrace the tubeless revolution for my mountain bike. Enter Alex, the cycling guru at High Desert Bicycles East, who guided me through this transition with the wisdom of a seasoned trailblazer.Alex didn't try to upsell me into anything I didn't need, which is a rare gem in the world of bike shops. Instead, he laid out my options for a reliable setup that would primarily see pavement but could also handle gravel and dirt trails. His explanation of the additional DIY maintenance required for a tubeless setup was as clear as a desert sky, and he even showed me the few products I'd need, along with the recommended frequency of use. When my offroad tires were too stretched to seal onto my existing wheels, Alex recommended some Specialized Fasttrack tires. These were the perfect middle ground between my Maxis Torch gravel tires (now flat) and the stretched ones. The pricing for both the product and labor was very reasonable, promising a far more reliable ride.In summary, Alex at High Desert Bicycles East is the kind of cycling guru who makes you feel like you're riding on a cloud, even when you're dodging goat heads. If you're looking for honest advice and a smooth transition to tubeless, Alex is your guy!Happy trails, and may your tires always stay inflated!
