Honestly a little disappointed. When I first came in to make an appointment to have my bike tuned up, I was greeted very friendly and welcoming; the vibe was different after the fact and maybe I’m just misunderstanding social cues as I’m fairly new to Albuquerque and not familiar with the local customs. But what really disappointed me is the problem that I came for didn’t seem to have been addressed. I requested a tuneup and also stated that I had a concern about my bottom bracket. The shop claimed that there was nothing wrong with the bottom bracket, but yet as soon as I got back on the bike, the same clicking was present. I was told that the bike was taken for a test ride and they did not or weren’t able to reproduce the same effect. I don’t see how that was possible, especially when I see certain things that a professional bike shop shouldn’t have been done… they failed to do. First off, they did not properly align the brake levers to be at the equal angle on both sides, as well as the same distance from the grip. I also had them replaced both front and rear brake pads, and as you can see by the pictures that the right barrel adjuster is still set out, rather than sitting flush in the start position. And maybe things are different here in New Mexico than in Arizona but when you spend over $100 for a tuneup, you expect at least the bike to be wiped down and look like it’s been worked on. Also the chain was not lubed, which is also a surprise. And although the tuneup does not include new cables, as you can see also by the pictures that the cables were in poor condition and I would’ve gladly had them replaced rather than be in the condition they are now in. This is my only source of transportation and count on it, however, I feel I need to take it to a different shop to have it serviced correctly.Update: after spending well over an hour adjusting, aligning, cleaning up the bike, lubing the chain. I noticed that they didn’t even properly seat my brand new brake pads, having them properly make contact to the rim. I took care of this myself right away as this is my only source of transportation and need to be able to stop. (Added two additional photos and removed one more star). - Robert

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals

For residents of New Mexico, particularly those in Albuquerque seeking a bicycle store, Two Wheel Drive Inc presents a mixed yet historically significant profile. Having served the community since 1982, it has cultivated a long-standing presence and a reputation for being a personalized, approachable bike shop. The explicit focus on direct customer interaction with mechanics and the stated commitment to "personal service" are appealing features for locals who value transparency and direct communication when entrusting their bicycles for service.

The extensive range of repair services, from basic check-ups to comprehensive overhauls, along with a wide variety of bike brands and types available for sale, means that Two Wheel Drive Inc aims to be a one-stop shop for diverse cycling needs. This breadth of offerings, coupled with a team boasting significant combined experience, suggests a capacity to address most, if not all, of a local rider's requirements.

However, it's also important for locals to be aware of recent customer feedback that highlights inconsistencies in service quality, particularly concerning thoroughness of tune-ups and communication regarding orders. For a cyclist whose bike is their "only source of transportation," these issues can be particularly impactful. While many past experiences have been positive, the more recent critical reviews suggest that, at times, the execution of services might not consistently meet every customer's expectation for a professional bike shop. Therefore, while Two Wheel Drive Inc offers a broad range of services and a unique, personal approach that has historically served the community well, potential customers might benefit from direct communication about their specific needs and expectations prior to service to ensure a satisfactory experience.
