Bob's Cycle Center traditionally offers a range of services for conventional bicycles and is continually working to expand its expertise in electric bike maintenance. Their primary focus remains on getting customers' bikes back on the road safely and efficiently. While specific service menus can vary, based on customer feedback and general bike shop offerings, one can infer the following services:
General Bicycle Repair & Maintenance: This includes common repairs such as replacing overstretched chains, installing new cassettes, brake adjustments, gear tuning, tire and tube replacements, and other routine maintenance to ensure a bicycle functions correctly and safely. They have a long-standing history of performing quality mechanical work.
Component Replacement: The shop handles the replacement of various bicycle components, as indicated by the example of a cassette and chain replacement. This would typically extend to other parts like handlebars, saddles, pedals, and potentially more complex drivetrain or braking system components.
E-bike Specific Mechanical Repairs: While the electrical components of e-bikes present new challenges, Bob's Cycle Center does undertake mechanical repairs on e-bikes, such as addressing issues with the chain and cassette on models like the Lectric XP 2.0. They are in the process of enhancing their protocols for e-bike handling.
Consultation and Quoting: Customers can expect to receive quotes for repair work, allowing them to understand the estimated cost before proceeding with services. The staff engages in discussions with customers about their repair needs.
It is important for customers to thoroughly discuss the nature of their e-bike's electrical issues and ensure clear communication regarding all components that need inspection, especially after mechanical work is performed, to ensure full functionality.
Bob's Cycle Center, as a long-standing establishment, possesses several notable features, alongside areas where they are actively working to improve, particularly in the evolving e-bike landscape.
Long-Standing Reputation for Mechanical Work: For many years, Bob's Cycle Center has been a trusted establishment for "pretty much all my bike repair needs," with the "quality of their work never up for debate" on traditional bicycles. This history speaks to a foundational competence in bicycle mechanics.
Fair Pricing for Services: Customer feedback indicates that repair quotes, such as for a chain and cassette replacement, are considered "pretty fair," suggesting transparent and reasonable pricing for their services.
Responsive to Feedback and Improvement: Following incidents like the temporary misplacement of e-bike keys, Bob's Cycle Center has demonstrated a willingness to learn and adapt by "implementing a new policy on storage of keys." This shows a commitment to refining their processes based on customer experiences.
Addressing E-bike Specific Challenges: While acknowledging that they are "not fully up to speed" with all e-bike complexities, the fact that they are taking in e-bikes for repair indicates an effort to expand their capabilities. The detailed customer experience with the E007 error code highlights a learning opportunity for them to integrate electrical component testing into their post-repair quality checks for e-bikes.
Customer Service Engagement: Despite the challenges faced by some customers, the staff does engage in conversations regarding issues and actively works to locate misplaced items, as seen with the key search. This suggests a desire to resolve problems and maintain customer relationships.
However, it is prudent for customers, especially those with e-bikes or complex repair needs, to communicate thoroughly and inspect work upon pickup, as issues like unreplaced parts or unaddressed electrical connections have occurred.

Bob's Cycle Center Reviews
I have faithfully gone to Bob's Cycle Center over the years for pretty much all my bike repair needs. Up until recently, I could never think of any reason not to use their services as the quality of their work was never up for debate. However, it appears from my perspective that they are not fully up to speed (no pun intended) when it comes to E-bikes. I brought my Lectric XP 2.0 in for some repair work and the repair technician gave me a quote to replace the back cassette that was damaged by an overstretched chain along with a new chain. As far as I am concerned, the price quoted by the repair technician seemed pretty fair. After I signed the repair order, I asked the technician if he needed the keys as he didn't explicitly ask for them. He answered, "sure, why not?," as if it wasn't really necessary. After about a week or so, the bike was ready for pick up. I went in to pick up the bike and asked the cashier where the keys were. He said, "oh, they should be with the bike." The keys were clearly not with the bike which then generated a staff search of the back room for the keys. After about 10 minutes, the search yielded nothing. The technician who serviced the bike was not scheduled to be in until days later and so I told the staff I would take the bike home while they continued searching for the keys.Days went by and still no keys, no notifications from the staff. An E-bike can operate without keys but it is not a pleasant ride as the gear ratio is not like a regular bike. I finally found a spare pair of keys at home that I had kept hidden away in the garage and immediately tested the bike. I turned on the bike and the display showed an error message E007. I looked up the code on YouTube and the error pointed to a faulty cable connection. I found the connection point and discovered that the male and female ends were not attached correctly. Fortunately, it was a simple fix and the error code went away and the bike worked fine.Another week went by and I finally got a call from Bob's Cycle Center that they found my keys. When I went in to pick up the keys, they assured me that they had implemented a new policy on storage of keys. The fact that they temporarily misplaced my keys is not really a big deal in my opinion since I did have a spare key. The main issue is that an e-bike has cable connections that should be tested by turning the bike on after any mechanical work is done on the bike to make sure everything works, including the electrical components.
Apr 25, 2025 · David BrotmanAfter taking my neighbors bicycle to Bob's to have the crankshaft bearings replaced and spending $300 for that, it was returned to the neighbor without the crankshaft bearings being replaced. In fact, the partial bearings that were there when it was taken in were removed and no new ones were ever put in, along with parts that kept the bearings in place. The salesman said that for another $200 they would sell the neighbor a newly "rebuilt" bike and keep the one that was not fixed. I was asked what to do about the problem and I told the neighbor to keep the bike and that we should get it fixed properly by a reputable bike shop. Please check their work extensively when you pick up items that are to be fixed.
Jun 06, 2025 · Lawrence JonesI have visited the shop multiple times for servicing my bikes (I have several high end bikes, Cannondale Lefty, Specialized s-works epic). The service quality itself is below average: gearing that I had asked to tune/adjust at my last service was just as bad after service as it was before with exactly the same problem, and bar tape they placed didn't even last a year .... what finally made me change bike shops was their terrible inflexibility and rigidity. I never had asked for a change in the expected service completion day before, but on this occasion I had a short notice event coming up, so I asked 4 days before the event (snd again 1 day before) whether they could complete at least 1 of the two bikes I had brought in for service (which would have been just 2 days before the completion date they had given me) and they refused - I appreciate that there are waitlists, but most bike shops that I have worked with over many years are usually accommodating when something important comes up for a customer and you are not a customer who regularly asks to move pick up days forward. Utterly inflexible and unhelpful and combined with below average service. I recommend to anyone who cares about cycling not to use this bike shop.
Jun 28, 2025 · Ralf HolzerA bike store with no BS! Stated my price range and goals for a bike, and it only took one of the bike experts Chris a couple seconds to find the right bike for me. Compared to other bike stores, there was absolutely no pressure or pushing to purchase. Chris expertly laid out the pros and cons with no BS, and gave me plenty of time and space to think about my purchase. He even helped me load the bike into my car. Smooth process, great deals, and amazing customer service!
Mar 11, 2025 · Mark ZobovI recently purchased two bikes—one for myself and one for my daughter—and had an excellent experience. Aubrey provided outstanding customer service, demonstrating great knowledge and attention to detail. The process was smooth and efficient, and we were up and riding in no time. Highly recommend!
