Big City Bikes offers a comprehensive range of bike repairs and services designed to cater to all types of bicycles. They pride themselves on completing service and repairs promptly, with some fixes even being done "while you wait." Their commitment to quality is evident in their detailed approach to maintenance and repairs. Here's a breakdown of the key services they provide:
Basic Tune-Up: This includes derailleur adjustment, brake adjustment, wheel true off the bike, inspection and adjustment of all bearings (hubs, bottom bracket, headset), checking and torquing all bolts to proper spec, re-lubrication of the drivetrain and moving parts, a thorough wipe down, and a test ride. This service is available for both geared and single-speed bikes.
Advanced Tune-Up: Building upon the basic tune, this service includes the removal, deep cleaning, and inspection of drivetrain components (crank, chain, cassette, and derailleurs). This provides a more in-depth maintenance solution for improved performance.
Overhaul: For a complete rejuvenation, the bike is stripped to the bare frame. All serviceable bearings are disassembled, cleaned, and re-greased with new bearings. All components are deep cleaned and reinstalled, and all new cables and housing are installed. (Parts not included in the price.)
Bike Assembly from Box: If you've purchased a bike online or are shipping one, Big City Bikes can professionally assemble it for you. They can even receive shipments directly, which can be convenient. This service is particularly important as many brands require professional assembly to activate their warranty. This service is offered for geared, single-speed, and e-bikes.
A La Carte Services: For specific needs that don't require a full tune-up, they offer individual services such as:
- Flat fixes (often done while you wait)

Big City Bikes Reviews
I highly recommend Big City Bikes! The whole team is kind, honest, and welcoming every time I come in. Just wrapped up a build with their help (putting on some snazzy fenders), thanks again Brad! I appreciate this shop’s dedication to quality and non-gatekeepy attitude. If you need a local bike shop in Chicago, Big City should be at the top of your list.
Nov 17, 2024 · Edward BoyleI went in yesterday to order a bike (they didn't have the size I needed in stock). Adam accidentally charged me their cost at the time of purchase, so he called me today to let me know the new price (quite a bit higher). When probing to ask about a break on price given the mistake, there was no flexibility offered. I decided to cancel my order, and found the same bike for a couple hundred bucks cheaper (also being ordered). I understand this is a business and we all need to make ends meet, but this felt like a good opportunity to own the mistake, and reduce profits a bit for customer recovery and win long term business in the shop for repairs/upgrades (this shop is quite close to where I live).Overall, the guys I spoke with yesterday seemed knowledgeable and friendly. I would suggest shopping around on price if you're buying new.
Jun 17, 2025 · Jake MckechnieJust bought a great condition used bike, new helmet and U-lock/cable lock for less than $500. Brad is the man, very informative and even helped me load my bike into my car.
May 10, 2025 · Nick FergusonBrad, Adam, and the whole team at Big City Bikes provide expert opinions and excellent service. After the Abound was out of stock for a few weeks, Brad gave me a call to let me know when it came in. After I bought it, they assembled it right away and gave me a comprehensive course on the ins and outs of the bike. Even offered to help install the accessories as they were shipped to me and helped with some brake trouble a couple weeks later. This kind of service is exactly what I was hoping for when I chose to buy an e-bike from a local shop instead of purely online.I'll be coming back when my husband's e-bike envy gets the best of him!
Jun 20, 2024 · Hannah Frank CisnerosI came in on Weds April, 26th to check out the space and see what kind of single speed/fixed gear/track bike components they had. It's one thing seeing products online, and another seeing products in hand. You can easily get sucked into buying REALLY expensive cranks and etc online. Also, talking to a bike mechanic and someone who has replaced bottom brackets, cranks, and chains for a career can give you some solid advice. The gent helping me out was great, he was aware of price, but made great recommendations, from the bottom bracket, chain, crank set, freewheel and picking out some deep dish black wheels.I know time has moved on from deep dish/rap blog era fixed gears, but I like the look. Keeping style locked in from an era makes some things more interesting. Installing everything was easier than I thought it would be. Granted, already having the correct tools to fix everything helps immensely. Additionally, being handy HELPS. Immensely.I want to say thank you to the shop for aiding me in my purchases and making my single speed look extra mean. The bike came from another shop in which i purchased for less than all the parts I have put on the bike, which is more normal than ya think.Thank you guys!
