Superfly Wheels

537 Main St, Pleasanton, CA 94566, USA

4.0
Horrible service. I brought my bike (that I purchased from them years ago) to have the inner tubes replaced and about 2.5 weeks later, the tube for the back tire fell off the rim and would not inflate.I took it back to the store and the owner(?) implied they botched up the repair but said he would charge me less since they messed up. When I picked up the bike, I was charged full price and saw they charged me extra to move my gear and chain to the other side of the bike. When I asked them why the bike pedals would keep moving when I didn't pedal and why they did that change, their mechanic yelled at me and said that's how it is supposed to be.I also asked them why I was charged the full price after being told I would pay less due to their prior improper service and I was met with a dismissive attitude.I eventually took my bike to another shop and was told that Superfly wheels did not notice there was an issue with my rim which was causing the flat with the inner tube. The is something they should have immediately noticed. The change they made to my gear and chain was also dangerous since that makes it harder to control the bike as well.Do not go here. - George Chin

Services Offered

Based on its classification as a "bicycle store" and customer reviews, Superfly Wheels likely offers a range of services fundamental to supporting local cyclists. These typically include:

  • Bicycle Repairs and Maintenance: This is a core service for any bike shop. Specific services mentioned in reviews include inner tube replacement for tires and addressing issues related to rims. Standard repair offerings would typically cover flat tire fixes, brake adjustments, gear tuning, chain repair/replacement, and other common mechanical issues. One review explicitly mentions them attempting a repair on a back tire, indicating they handle common maintenance tasks.

  • Addressing Flat Tires: A common and essential service, specifically highlighted by a positive review where Dean and Joe assisted with a flat tire. This indicates they are equipped to handle immediate needs for riders facing roadside issues.

  • Bicycle Sales (Likely): While not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, the fact that a customer purchased a bike from them "years ago" implies that Superfly Wheels sells new bicycles. A typical bike shop would offer various types of bikes, such as road, mountain, hybrid, and possibly electric bikes, catering to different rider preferences and budgets.

  • Parts and Accessories: To facilitate repairs and enhance riding experiences, a bike shop would typically stock essential parts (e.g., inner tubes, chains, gears) and accessories (e.g., helmets, lights, locks). The review mentioning charges to "move my gear and chain to the other side of the bike" implies they handle drivetrain components.

  • Expert Advice (Variable): One customer praised Dean and Joe for being "super cool" and helpful with a flat tire. However, another detailed a negative experience where a mechanic allegedly "yelled" and was dismissive when questioned about repair charges and a dangerous modification to their bike, implying a lack of clear communication and helpful advice in that instance. This suggests the quality of advice and customer interaction can be inconsistent.

It is important for potential customers to consider that while they offer essential repair services, communication regarding diagnoses, necessary repairs, and pricing may require proactive clarification, based on conflicting customer feedback.

  • Quick Assistance for Basic Needs: One positive highlight is the ability to provide prompt assistance for straightforward issues, such as a flat tire. The review mentioning Dean and Joe helping "in out at a fair price" after a walk from BART underscores a capability for efficient service in specific, immediate situations, especially when staff are available and willing to assist.

This includes a botched repair (inner tube falling off the rim), failure to diagnose an underlying rim issue, an unauthorized and "dangerous" modification to the gear/chain setup, and a lack of transparency regarding pricing ("charged full price after being told I would pay less"). These points suggest potential inconsistencies in workmanship and customer communication protocols.
