Mar 15, 2022 · Nadè BozhinovaRobinson took my 20inch Bmx wheels as I requested them to be "trued" or balanced and straight, I also wanted a quote on ceramic bearings for both the front and back wheels. I get a message couple days later with 2 estimates. #1 over $500 dollars including ceramic ... #2 over $400 including steels bearings. He explained that he was going to rebuild the rear hub with new springs,Prawls, bearings and new spokes because they were too short. I was little surprised at the total cost and explained that the rear wheel was less than a year old and was top of the line profile hub all titanium driver bolts and spokes built by a very reputable Bmx company costing me over $600 to have it built. I told him the spokes are titanium and expensive and that I wanted to keep them. I also explained the wheels don't need rebuilds but go ahead and get new springs and ceramic bearings for the back and ceramic for the front then true them both. Mr Robinson then messaged me back to tell me that the driver and bolts ECT were not titanium and that they were alloy. That scared me to think he could not identify the titanium parts on the back hub considering his name Wheels works. We agreed that he would do springs bearings and true them. I told him take your time I'm going out of town for 10 days. After about 2 weeks I txt him for status and he was waiting for the front bearings I believe. Finally it was more than 3 weeks and let's me know they are ready. I pick them up they are fairly trued and looked like they were ready. I have taken apart and rebuilt many profile Elite hubs myself and built wheels from scratch but I wanted them to be perfectly true which I was not capable of doing lack of equipment. I install the wheels and the rear will not hardly turn. Turns out they have very thin specialty washers that are must be in the right place for the bearings to run correct. I took the hub apart and rebuilt it to run correct. For $330 I expected more and was disappointed with this outcome. I didn't mind the amount for the parts and labo. I like to contribute to local bike shops and support local businesses in general. I'm sure they great with other bike types but not the BMX models.
