Dandelion Bikes Introduce
For those of us in Washington seeking a truly transformative cycling experience, especially when navigating Seattle’s unique urban landscape and hilly terrain, Dandelion Bikes stands out as a highly specialized and deeply knowledgeable resource. This isn't just any bike shop; Dandelion Bikes focuses specifically on "premium transportation e-bikes," believing in the potential of electric bikes to become "real transportation for millions of Americans," particularly in the Pacific Northwest. They emphasize bikes that "ride just like a bicycle with a bit of magic power," combining the joy of traditional cycling with the incredible assistance of electric propulsion.
At Dandelion Bikes, the team comprises "daily ebike riders in Seattle who know and ride the products we sell." This firsthand experience translates into an unparalleled level of expertise and genuine passion, ensuring that every customer receives informed recommendations and a bike that truly "fits your body and it has to fit your vibe." They specialize in "bikes with safety, comfort, and utility features" designed to handle "years of Seattle rain and muck," making them a perfect partner for year-round riding. While one customer noted a specific e-bike type was outside their repair scope, Dandelion Bikes has a clear policy for servicing the brands they sell, and are a certified Riese & Müller dealer, a testament to their commitment to quality and focused service.
Dandelion Bikes is conveniently located at 408 18th Ave S, Seattle, WA 98144, USA. This address places the shop in Seattle's Central District, a vibrant neighborhood known for its community spirit and accessibility. Its location is particularly strategic for urban cyclists, as it's near the intersection of South Jackson Street and 18th Ave South.
The shop deliberately chose this location because it offers "plenty of space to showcase our beautiful bikes" and, crucially, provides "a great test ride course, including some impressive hills if you want 'em." The front doors face 18th Avenue South, which is a Seattle Greenway. This means the street benefits from "traffic calming features like speed bumps as well as improved road crossings that make it more bikeable," ideal for testing out electric bikes in a comfortable environment. While one review mentioned parking is "not great at all," living "across the street" was a benefit, implying that street parking in the immediate vicinity might be limited. However, for those arriving by bike, its location on a Greenway is a significant advantage. Public transportation is also readily available, with several King County Metro bus routes serving the Central District, offering convenient access from various parts of Seattle and the wider Washington area. The ability to test bikes on "the steepest climb Dearborn Street between 18th and Hiawatha," just four blocks south, provides a real-world test for these powerful ebikes, which is a major draw for prospective buyers in hilly Seattle.
Dandelion Bikes offers a specialized range of services, primarily focused on premium electric transportation bikes, ensuring a high level of expertise and support for their specific product lines:
- Premium E-Bike Sales: They specialize in selling high-quality "transportation ebikes" from renowned brands such as Riese & Müller, Urban Arrow, and Stromer. This includes cargo ebikes (front-loading and long-tail for hauling kids or groceries), city ebikes, and touring ebikes.
- Expert E-Bike Assembly: All new ebikes purchased from Dandelion Bikes are professionally assembled by their service department. They emphasize that this is a meticulous process, taking about 90 minutes for a skilled mechanic, including brake alignment, wheel truing, derailleur alignment, shifter adjustment, torque checks on all bolts, and vigorous test rides.
- Comprehensive E-Bike Service & Repair: They offer a "Comprehensive Service" recommended every 1250 miles or annually, aimed at returning your e-bike to "like new" shape. This service includes cleaning and inspection of the frame, fork, wheels; cleaning and lubrication of suspension and drivetrain components; adjusting hubs, truing wheels, and inspecting tires; realigning derailleur hanger and adjusting shifting; brake adjustment and bedding new pads/rotors; headset adjustment; checking torque of all bolts; updating firmware; and two test rides.
- Limited E-Bike Service Policy for Non-Purchased Bikes: It's important to note their service policy: "We work on all Riese & Müller bikes and all bikes purchased at Dandelion. Nothing else." This specialized focus ensures deep expertise for the brands they carry, but means they may not service other e-bike types or brands not purchased from them.
- Small Job Repairs: They reserve time each day for "small jobs like flat fixes and brake pad replacement." Customers can call or email the service department for availability and pricing on these quick fixes.
- Accessories & Parts Sales: They sell accessories relevant to their transportation e-bikes, focusing on items that enhance safety, comfort, and utility for daily riding in Seattle.
- Complimentary Comprehensive Services with Purchase: New e-bike purchases include two complimentary Comprehensive Services: the first after 300 miles, and the second after 1250 miles or one year from purchase, to help establish a good maintenance routine.
- Speedy's E-Bike Rescue Subscription: As of October 2024, they include a one-year subscription to Speedy's E-Bike Rescue with new e-bike purchases for customers in the greater Seattle area. This service offers roadside pickup of you and your bike in case of a breakdown, or home pickup for scheduled maintenance.
- Test Rides and Customer Consultation: They encourage customers to visit and test ride bikes on their showroom floor and on nearby hills, providing a real-world assessment. Their sales staff, being daily e-bike riders, offer personalized consultations to help customers find the "perfect e-bike."
Dandelion Bikes stands out in the Washington cycling market due to several distinct features and highlights, particularly for those interested in electric and cargo bikes:

Dandelion Bikes Reviews
Thankfully, I live across the street because parking is not great at all. The location is convenient for bike enthusiasts, but that’s where the positives end. I needed my tires repaired because they wouldn’t inflate. I thought it would be a simple fix, but they wouldn’t even look at it because my bike was a different type of e-bike. They sent me somewhere else, so much for convenience. On the bright side, they did sell me a $110 ABUS lock. So, I gave them an extra star just for that gracious offer to take my money.
May 27, 2025 · Jack MillerI don't have much to add to the other reviews, but this place was great. Tyler and Robert worked hard to find a bike that fit my budget and parameters, and made sure to have me (and my son!) test out each bike. (They also let my 5 year old hang out at the shop and cannily bribed him to get him on the bikes!)They were really focused on making sure that I walked out of the shop with a bike that made sense for me and my family.Great investment. I ride the bike just about every day for commute + kid dropoff. So much better than being in a car.
Apr 12, 2025 · Maximilian PressBeen meaning to write this review for a while! This shop is great. I bought my Riese and Muller Load 60 from here and the staff was so helpful in helping me choose the perfect bike for me. I use the bike almost every day!I was able to test out bikes both on my own and with a passenger, and the greenway near the store is the perfect test track (it's got good road, bad road, nice hills, everything you might encounter in a city environment). If you're looking for an ebike, I highly highly recommend stopping into Dandelion Bikes.
Feb 20, 2025 · John McSweeneyThis is an amazing bike shop. Great selection and quality customer service. Tyler and his team helped me find the right e-bike. I have biked almost 1,200 miles since picking it up last April and I can’t imagine my life without it
Sep 10, 2023 · Jennie MaesI fully enjoyed my experience with Dandelion Bikes. As per the other reviews, the staff was friendly and the selection plentiful.Staff & Owner: Attentive and friendly but beyond a doubt, these guys (shout out to Robert) know their bikes and were happy to share the knowledge. Never did I feel like I was being talked down to or being pushed into buying something. The whole team from sales to repairs helped to explain different configurations, pros and cons, legal classifications, and even service costs over the life time of the bike. I felt really confident when I finally chose my bike.Test Rides: Dandelion is gracious yet practical with their test rides. I went back three times before I decided on my ride. Each time, they would make sure the bike was fitted for my short inseam and give me an overview of how the E-bike features worked. The first time on the bike, the staff was careful to walk me through the software and how it would be different from a traditional bike. On my test rides I was able to try multiple different features from a derailleur & chain, variable gears, different brakes, and a belt drive.Purchasing & Ordering: Depending on how much you want to customize or special order, your experience may vary. I found the payment method exceptionally easy and I was fortunate that all the parts of my order were already in the shop. Within about a week my bike was ready to roll.
