This commitment ensures that every dollar spent supports a greater good, aligning with the values of many Minnesota residents who prioritize local impact.
Accessibility for All Budgets: Unlike many bike shops that primarily stock high-cost new bikes, Lowertown Bike Shop consciously offers a wide range of price points, including excellent quality used bikes. This makes cycling genuinely accessible to newer cyclists, those on a budget, or anyone looking for an entry point into the biking world without a significant financial commitment. Customers frequently praise this aspect, noting they could find a bike "within their budget."
Outstanding Customer Service and Friendly Staff: Reviews consistently highlight the "very helpful and kind" sales staff and mechanics. Customers appreciate clear explanations and a friendly demeanor. The staff is known for being welcoming and approachable, creating an environment where even beginners feel comfortable asking questions.
Unique "Shop Dog" Experience: A truly charming and memorable feature, the shop's resident dog, Merv, is often mentioned by customers as a highlight of their visit. Merv acts as an unofficial greeter, adding a warm, welcoming, and memorable touch to the shop's atmosphere, making it feel less like a business and more like a community space.
Integrated Coffee Shop: The presence of a full coffee bar within the bike shop is a unique and highly appreciated amenity. It allows customers to enjoy a quality beverage while Browse, waiting for repairs, or simply socializing. This blend of cycling culture and a café atmosphere makes Lowertown Bike Shop a true community hub.
Commitment to Sustainability: Through their extensive recycling and refurbishment programs, Lowertown Bike Shop plays a crucial role in reducing waste and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options. Lowertown Bike Shop Reviews
I’ve been here a few times in the last few weeks with my girlfriend, needing different parts for my bike. The salesperson was very helpful and kind and explained things clearly. They have a good selection of parts and bikes. My girlfriend was able to get a bike within her budget which was fantastic. Most other bikes shops only sell high cost new bikes, which makes it hard for newer cyclists or people buying their first bike to get into it, without breaking the bank. This business is also a non-profit which is awesome. They invest back into the community through affordable bike and recycling of parts. They also serve coffee, which is awesome, because what kind of cyclist doesn’t drink coffee??I will be coming back and recommending this place to all my friends! Most importantly they have a cute dog in the store.
Jul 15, 2023 · Ken OkadaJust picked my older mountain bike. I brought it in for a tune up. They did need to replace the chain and bracket. It's like a new bike! It's shifts well and runs great. I love the shop, the dog, the staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
Mar 29, 2025 · Nancy DoyleIt's so refreshing to go into a business and not be stressed. The atmosphere was good, the barista/bike guru gave us all the information we needed, knowledgeable without judgement or intense sales tactics. My daughter has a great new bike and we will visit again in the future.
Mar 28, 2025 · Lauren Dees-EricksonAmazing customer service. The staff were very informative, helpful and made sure to provide recommendations that were within our price range & riding purpose. + the shop dog & coffee shop within the store was a bonus 🙂. I had a million questions and they answered them all. I will be coming back for future bike items & tune ups! Thankyou for making my first bike buying experience positive.
Jul 31, 2024 · Kimmi NguyenWOW! I was mid-ride when I broke a spoke on my rear wheel. I happened to be just a couple of blocks away from Lowertown so I popped in. They were able to squeeze me in to get me back out riding quickly and did an awesome job! Really appreciative of the job they did. Had some coffee while waiting too which was super yummy as well!!
