L.A. GOLDEN BICYCLE SHOP Reviews
Great, family-owned bike shop with dedicated and helpful team. Giovanni & company are the best around. Frequent visitor on my bicycle needs, whether it be maintenance for my previous junk that I bought off a con-artist on Craigslist, or happy buyer of a new Haro Bridgeport that I'm so very thankful to have.
May 25, 2025 路 J Michael TereninSadly I came to this place when I first moved to L.A. I had a bad experience and for 3 years I never came back. I found other better shops.3 years later I was in a bind and on a whim gave them another chance. I was even more disappointed this time. I just had a simple flat.1. The guy took the flat inner tube off, then put the SAME torn inner tube back on. I rode away and was flat again within 2 minutes.2. He couldn't figure out why, so he told me to leave the bike overnight. I did. He called me the next day with "good news". He said " I looked in the garbage can and found the NEW inner tube you bought the day before in the garbage can...then realized I accidentally threw the new one away and put the old one BACK on your bike." I can't make this up. 馃槥馃檮馃3. He should've given me the service and parts free for his mistake, which cost me 3 Uber rides because I went a day without a bike. But he didn't. I Ubered quickly to the shop to get my bike before they closed - spending another $20 bucks on travel.4. When I first bought the bike he had continued to pressure me to put a bike tire on that I asserted was not sturdy enough for L.A. city riding. It was a racing tire, and meant for a clean track or cleared paved route. Not unpredictable, debris-filled city streets. He pushed and pushed and eventually I said to put the tire on because I didn't want to wait for the Kendra Karvs tire (the more durable tire) I wanted, to be delivered. That's the tire I had on both wheels that we decided to take off because it seemed to have developed a small bump that slowly wore into the inner tube to cause the flat. Within 2 weeks the "new" tire the guy pressured me to put on got punctured ALL THE WAY THROUGH during a normal city ride. The wheel that has the Kendra Karvs tire has NEVER gotten flat in months of rides from LA downtown to Long Beach, to Santa Monica to LAX -- ALL on the city streets...and it has NEVER punctured. The Kendra Karvs tire picks up debris but the debris never goes ALL the way through the tire to the inner tube. The road bike tire he put on took the same city debris and faltered pretty immediately on L.A. streets. Now, after all this time and money and still I don't have a bike I can ride. I won't go to this bike shop again. Even if I get a flat right next to this shop and all other shops are closed I will wait to the next day and take an Uber scooter somewhere else. I gave this bike shop 2 chances, in 3 years, and the outcome of both was very bad. During my first visit (3 years ago) the guy refused to give me a small piece of advice for a minor brake adjustment, that really didn't require a paid service. He wanted me to pay to learn or to pay for him to do it. I didn't. I went to another biker-friendly shop where bikers and bike repair teachs give each other advice within the community - because we're all on the no carbon footprint lovers team -- if one of us rides well, we are all better. I love having multiple bikes for different rides, and over the 3 years I spent thousands of dollars on 3 new bikes and gear at other bike shops because this bike shop wanted me to pay an extra $7 for his "brake adjustment", that was really just a subtle nuance, not a true repair . Needless to say he didn't get my $7 or my $1000+ dollars in bike expenses the past 3 years. It's all very unfortunate because I prefer to support small bike shops. But. I can't recommend this one. If he hadn't tried to keep his brake info "private" I would have stuck around and bought helmets, lights, locks, glasses, etc. But I walked out 3 years ago, only to walk in 3 years later again wishing I went to a different bike shop.
Jun 05, 2025 路 Omari JinakiWent in for a tune up on a specialized road bike I purchased from Facebook marketplace. I went around noon and they called me an hour and a half later to say my bike was ready. Prices are affordable and they care a lot about their clientele. I would definitely recommend coming here.
Jul 31, 2023 路 Sam CejaI took our bikes in for a tune-up a few days before CicLAvia and they had it ready in a day! They identified problems but asked before doing anything and the price was very affordable. Very friendly service, too. CicLAvia was fun and problem-free!
