Cycle Works-Martha's Vineyard Reviews
The owner is very knowledgeable and likes to educate his customers. That’s great, but he did not “educate” me regarding the true cost of the repairs my old bike needed to make it serviceable. When one asks how much a new wheel and chain will cost, making it clear that one is debating whether the bike is worth fixing, one expects a close estimate, not just the cost of parts. Instead of the $100 I was willing to spend, the bill, with labor, was close to $300. If I had known it would be so much, I might have junked the bike. Live and learn!
Sep 21, 2019 · Cary CleaverI was on vacation and broke a spoke on my second day. I called Cycle Works and the owner, John, answered on the second ring and told me bring the bike right over. In our first minute of conversation, it was apparent that he was a knowledgeable guy and I had no problem trusting him to repair my high end bike. His next words were, the quicker you let me get to this, the faster I’ll get you back on the road; you obviously came here to ride. As promised, he had the bike repaired BY THE END OF THE DAY and had some suggestions as to optimizing my Martha’s Vineyard cycling experience. And the bill for his services was modest in comparison to the service he provided. John is the real deal when it comes to bicycle knowledge and service.
Jul 18, 2019 · Dr Gary LightI’ve been to many of the bike shops on the island over the years and I think Cycle Works is the best of the lot. While the prices are somewhat higher than you would pay off island, they are well below the other shops. The owner is also a lot more knowledgeable, polite, great with my nephew, and helpful than the other island bike shops.
Aug 02, 2021 · Thomas DeBruhlThe owner is rude and creepy. While purchasing an overpriced helmet for myself, the owner lectured my young daughters on appropriate in store behavior ( even though they were patiently waiting and doing nothing wrong). The incident has had a lasting impression and scared my 3 year old. Definitely the worst bike shop on MV.
Nov 02, 2020 · zoe pechterJohn wasted my time. I simply wanted to have two tires replaced on some bikes we keep for our renters. I brought them in as requested and then he told me that he wouldn't install tires in them because the backs were not of the quality (quality -- not condition) that he will work on. ( It did not occur to him to say something before me making the trip.) He then proceeded to lecture and pontificate as he did when I came into the store the day earlier (he seems to like to to do that -- he appears a little "off"). Steer clear of this place.
