I brought my bike (Jamis Coda) in because I noticed it was riding slower than my other bike (Schwinn). Diego (Mechanic) went to work and returned my bike to its original glory. He replaced the tires, tightened the kick stand, and replaced the chain and cassette as well. I took it for a ride and it rides as smooth as a baby's bottom. Thanks Diego for putting in the work and for returning my bike before my 50th Birthday. It was definitely an early birthday gift. - Antonio Cruz

Bikes Not Bombs Hub & Bike Shop is distinguished by several unique features and highlights, most notably its deeply integrated social mission and commitment to community empowerment:

  • Social Enterprise Model: This is perhaps the most significant highlight. Bikes Not Bombs uses the bicycle as a vehicle for social change. They run comprehensive Youth Pathways programs where teens learn bicycle safety and mechanics skills. Paid Youth Apprentices work in the shop, gaining valuable job experience and career development opportunities. Some apprentices even advance to full-time positions. This creates a pipeline of skilled mechanics and empowers young individuals in the community.
  • International Partnerships: Bikes Not Bombs ships thousands of donated bicycles and parts overseas to economic development projects and partners in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. These bikes support micro-enterprise bike businesses, sustainable technology projects (like pedal-powered machinery), and youth training programs in these regions, extending their impact globally.
  • Expert and Empathetic Mechanics: Customer reviews consistently praise the skill and professionalism of their mechanics, like Diego, who are able to diagnose problems effectively and return bikes to "original glory" or get them "running smooth" even after significant damage. The appreciative tone of reviews highlights the positive and helpful interactions customers have with the staff.
  • Refurbished Bike Program: By reconditioning donated bikes, Bikes Not Bombs offers affordable, sustainable transportation options to the local community. This not only makes cycling more accessible but also promotes environmental sustainability by diverting bikes from landfills.
  • Community Hub and Education: Beyond sales and repairs, the "Hub" aspect signifies a place for learning and community engagement, offering programs like "Tool Time" and fostering a welcoming environment for all cyclists to learn and grow their skills.
