Bike Boom Reviews
I attempted a bike repair on my derailleur that, after a few hours and a stripped screw, realized I was probably not equipped to do myself. I brought in my bike, explained the situation, and anticipated I'd need to wait a few days and have the whole derailleur replaced. Peter took a look, set realistic expectations for what may need to be done, was empathetic, quoted me a very fair price, and told me it will probably be ready by the end of the day! I was thrilled! I was able to pick my bike up before the end of the day, and they did a great job getting my "handiwork" sorted and my bike back into shape.Bike Boom was a pleasant experience all around, and definitely a place I'd recommend to my friends and family for tune-ups and repairs in Davis.
Apr 26, 2025 · Ian PurcellThis is my go-to place bike shop - GOODBYE Landry's. There's a reason why their bookings are usually scheduled out at least 2-4 weeks for tune-ups/ bike builds. I have been here twice now. Both times have been for installation of a new fork. They will continue to receive my business in perpetuity. The first time was for a new bike I was building up, and I just didn't have the proper tools to install the headset or cut the steerer tube on my fork so dropped it off and told them what I was looking for. They gave some recommendations and performed the work within about a week's time. They left enough uncut steerer tube to allow me to adjust the stem/handlebars as I saw fit. I had also asked them to also tighten the bottom bracket to the correct torque just because I didn't have the tools on-hand. $60-$70 all-in - amazing value. They didn't upcharge for the BB work, or try to sneak in additional charges for headset spacers or anything else. The second time was to address play in my headset for a separate bike. They tightened the cap bolt and eliminated some of the play, but not all of it. They narrowed it down to the fork itself - steerer tube was shot and I needed a new fork. They researched some new fork options that worked for the frame, but we ultimately agreed that an uncut fork I had from the build mentioned above would probably fit this frame. I brought it by Sunday, and my new Frankenstein bike was ready for pick-up Monday afternoon. $68 all-in. They even fixed the front brake cable where a few strands from the line were bunched up and exposed out of the hosing. They fixed it without even mentioning it. The only reason I'm including this in the review is because I had known about it this issue that I caused myself, and was going to eventually address it when I swap out the brake.Hopefully the above is a testament to the shop's reputation and overall fairness. I don't feel like I'm being nickeled and dimed for every little thing and it feels like they genuinely aim to provide a solid service at a fair price.
Jun 27, 2025 · Tuan VoI had an excellent experience with bike repair (after a tire blow-out) with very fair prices. This is a very small little shop in the core of Davis Square in a very convenient location. I have also ordered bike accessories (lights, panniers) and consumables (eg chain lube) through the shop -- either that they had on the shelf in stock or had to order in. For the same or very close to the same price, it feels far better to support a local small business rather than Amazon etc. for bike accessories. Also, it is really nice to talk to a person, in person, about improving your ride in a way that can't be found in larger shops and/or online. Highly recommend this shop!
Mar 23, 2025 · Mike LeukamI brought in my vintage bicycle for a flat tire repair and ended up getting upsold into replacing the brake levers (which has been great so far to be fair). They also assessed my bike and said I needed a new bottom bracket. I was not educated enough on bottom brackets, but now I am. Mine was fine compared to the garbage they put in it.Due to incorrect installation or bad parts, the bottom bracket replacement destroyed my original left crank arm, ruined the replacement of that crank arm, and then finally worked on the third one. And now this "new" bottom bracket they put in my bike is grinding and squealing and pedaling is now quite poor. What happened to my old BB? Lost to time, like tears in the rain. While they did help with the initial issues, I will no longer be taking by bicycle to this place for any repairs. They lost my trust due to the high cost, bad parts and poor service.
Apr 24, 2025 · Scott LindemanNo new opinions here, but I completely agree with everyone who raves about the repair services at Bike Boom! Twice in the past year, I’ve gotten a brutal flat tire and shamefully walked my bike to this shop minutes before they were supposed to close. Both times, the team at Bike Boom was super friendly, honest, and accommodating— going out of their way to get my bike back on the road immediately (and in better condition than before). Fast service + fair pricing. Lucky to have a shop like this in Davis Square! Thanks guys!
