Mike's Bikes of Berkeley Reviews
My electronic shifter battery died and I was in the wrong gear to be able to get home. I was near this shop so I went in to see if they could help me and they charged up my bike for me for free! Super friendly staff. Very thankful for the roadside assistance.
May 30, 2025 · Micheline LI brought my bike in to get some new pedals installed. The attendant put them on free of charge and also taught me how to adjust my clip-in shoes. Very friendly. Would come back.
May 13, 2025 · Jim GarrisonI have a 1996 Super V 700 I bought brand new back in the day that has reached the end of the trail, unable to be repaired due to lack of parts, especially for the needle shock. I was researching new Cannondale mountain bikes for about a month. Found out my new pride and joy would be the Habit 4, and in stock here at mikes bikes in Berkeley. Note that the actual red paint in the stock photos isn't shown correctly, as its more of an amazing dark tone than seen here. Jose was a great help from the word go. Answered all my questions, set me up for the test ride...which was NUTS btw, this bike, all I can say is DAYUM it's a monster. I'm more than happy, actually elated with my purchase, and what I'll be able to do with it. Mikes Bikes has top notch friendly people. I'd gladly refer and recommend this shop to anyone looking for a damn good ride...although on the pricey side, the bikes they tend to carry are on the higher end of the range, but damn well worth every penny.
Dec 27, 2023 · Jason SchabertBrought my bike in because my front derailleur was having issues. When I came to pick the bike up, I paid the full amount but when I was riding it home it still wasn't shifting.I returned to the shop and the mechanic put the bike on the bench and insisted that because the gears shift when not under load there was no issue. It's great that they managed to get the gears to shift on the bench, but it doesn't change the fact that they don't shift while I am riding. I offered to let him ride the bike so that he could see for himself. He declined and was unwilling to help me any more.I asked for a refund since my bike wasn't fixed and the most the shop was willing to offer me was to take the bike back in for repair... at half cost.Fool me once and all that -- better to find a different shop.
Jan 16, 2025 · Ostip OstipReally strange experience at this place. My partner and I were looking for a very specific bike rack. Because of our bikes and our car, we were pretty limited in what would work but we’re thrilled that this place had one available. We called to confirm and the guy we spoke to on the phone told us that the internet inventory is flawless and he was not willing to check availability. That’s where it went sideways. They had one of these racks available but the box was absolutely destroyed. Falling apart and with holes. For $800 we were pretty disappointed that they were unwilling to discount at all given it was unequivocally not in new condition. They insisted they would “take care” if something was wrong but were unwilling to explain what that meant or what warranty they would offer.Even stranger, we ended up going to their other location in Walnut Creek because they showed they had one. The exact same rack was on sale there (different issues but will save that for another review). Maybe a decent place to get a bike or helmet but our experience was really not great.
