George Garner Cyclery Reviews
I ordered a Verve 2 bike for my wife from the Trek website and chose this store for pick up. The pickup was smooth. The employee that handled the transaction was very professional.A few days later me and my wife went for the first ride with the new bike and an intermittent clunking sound was coming from the freewheel. I called the store and they asked me to take the bike back for a check.I took the bike back to the storeA different employee greeted me this time. I explained what the issue was. He took the bike back and put it on the stand. I saw him spinning the rear wheel for about 30 seconds shifting the gears. He took the bike down and handed it to me. I was skeptical that the issue was not resolved and showed him how the freewheel was making a clunking noise. With a condescending attitude he said that "all entry level bicycles make that noise".I took my brand new entry level $400 (on sale) bike and left the store. Yesterday we went for another bike ride and the bike was still makes the noise.I have been riding bikes for 45 years and did not need this guy to tell me what a new bike should sound like.I will call Trek bikes to order a new flywheel.
Apr 28, 2025 · Gerty NWorked with me for over an hour and through multiple bike trials to find the right fit. Made sure every bike was tuned up properly before each test. And they were extremely helpful with fitting the saddle and bars perfectly. Before I left they did one more final inspection, oiled the chain, and helped me get my bike into my car. Phenomenal service and attention to detail! Will definitely be back for anything I need!
Oct 10, 2024 · Bis B FlatGeorge Garner Cycling is an excellent entity for either purchasing a new bike, or receiving repair help. The staff is energetic, beaming with knowledge and supportive of cycling as a sport. I discovered the prices to be quite low -- in comparison to other companies in Chicago's northern suburbs. The experience -- repeatedly-- was very positive.
Feb 17, 2025 · Caroline MoreFriendly service and they go out of their way to help.I'm visiting from England and I rented a Trek Emonda ALR 5 from them for 3 days. I wish my, actually make that all UK, local bike shops were this good. You are so lucky to have a shop like this in Northbrook / your neighbourhood.I did 65 miles on the rental from Northbrook all the way down to the Lake Front Trail and back on the first day, not a single issue. The bike was all sized correctly, they even fitted my pedals and Garmin Edge and Varia mounts for me.Highly recommended, would love this to be my LBS!
Jul 18, 2024 · Dan GrantGreat neighborhood bike shop. Friendly staff that is knowledgeable even with bikes that aren’t your typical “family” bike. I have a high end mountain bike that they service whenever needed. Last year I had an issue with my cassette and chain that came up just week before a mtb trip I was going on. Even though they were busy they fixed the issue and made sure I got my bike back in time to bring on my trip. They have also helped with sending my fork/shock back to SRAM for service. This is a great shop to trust with the service you need or your next bike purchase.Update 3/7/24.Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Jim just helped me with a new carbon wheel set for my mountain bike Very knowledgeable send fast friendly service. Thanks!
