3.0
Edit: the app is still clunky and slow and not very user friendly and it messes up occasionally, but it is at least functional. I've updated my review to 3 stars because I use this bike share often and have enjoyed it and since the first time I used it, I haven't had an issue that bad.My apartment complex added these bikes a few weeks ago, and I was really excited to try them out. It takes a few days to get added to the system and approved, not a problem though. I go to rent one of the bikes, get it out of the bike lock, and realize the chain is not attached to the gears. I try to fix it myself but can't reach what I need to reach to do so, so I try to return it and rent another. But the app won't end my rental even though i returned and re-locked the bike and waited nearly 20 minutes for it to recognize the rental was over, closed and opened the app, refreshed, etc... so now I'm stuck in bike rental purgatory with broken Bike #1 forever I guess. Reported the issue, and I will change my review if it gets resolved but I don't have high hopes, the app seems cheap and clunky (I noticed that all the bikes were in the rack, however only bikes 1 and 3 were "available" to rent in the app... does that mean other tenants are stuck in purgatory with bikes 2, 4, 5 and 6?) I also noticed I can't rent a bike for a partner on the app, so I always have to go alone I guess, which also kind of sucks. I'm really disappointed and sad, it could have been really fun and I would have used it a lot. - Annie Evdokiou

On Bike Share Introduce

Hello, Rhode Island residents! Are you looking for a convenient and eco-friendly way to get around your apartment complex, corporate campus, or community? On Bike Share, located right here in Pawtucket, offers an innovative solution that brings the joy and utility of cycling directly to you. This isn't your traditional retail bicycle store; instead, On Bike Share specializes in providing custom-branded bicycle fleets and bike share systems for private properties and managed communities. They are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life and promoting sustainable transportation within Rhode Island by making bicycles readily available to those who live, work, and study in participating locations.

Rhode Island, with its compact size and growing emphasis on green initiatives, is an ideal environment for bike share programs. As our state continues to develop more bike paths and embrace alternative transportation, having easy access to bicycles within residential or professional communities becomes a significant advantage. On Bike Share understands this evolving need and provides a tailored solution, allowing property managers, businesses, and educational institutions to offer their residents, employees, or students a flexible and healthy transportation option. While the experience relies on their app, which some users have noted can be clunky, the core service of providing on-site bike access is a valuable amenity that many Rhode Islanders are coming to appreciate, especially as a "small but impactful selling point" for properties.

The core of On Bike Share's operations is located at 461 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860, USA. While this address serves as their administrative and operational hub, it's important for Rhode Island users to understand that On Bike Share is primarily a B2B (business-to-business) service. This means their "bike store" experience isn't about visiting a retail storefront to browse bikes for individual purchase. Instead, their bicycles are deployed as shared fleets within specific properties or campuses that have partnered with On Bike Share.

Therefore, accessibility for a typical Rhode Island user means being part of a community, apartment complex, corporate campus, or hotel that has implemented an On Bike Share system. If your property is a client, then access to the bikes is incredibly convenient – they are right there on-site, typically in dedicated docking racks. For those looking to inquire about setting up a bike share program for their own property in Rhode Island, reaching their Pawtucket office is straightforward. Main Street in Pawtucket is a well-known thoroughfare, easily accessible by car, and well-served by local public transportation options, including RIPTA bus routes. This central location in Pawtucket allows On Bike Share to effectively manage its operations and provide support to its clients across Rhode Island, ensuring that the bike fleets they deploy are maintained and ready for use.

On Bike Share offers a unique set of services tailored for properties, campuses, and communities looking to provide a convenient bicycle amenity. Their model focuses on enabling clients to run their own bike share programs.

  • Custom-Branded Bike Share Systems: On Bike Share designs and implements complete bike share programs, customizing the bicycles, baskets, racks, and even the mobile app with the client's logo. This allows properties to offer a branded amenity that promotes their commitment to sustainability and healthy living.
  • Fleet Provision and Setup: They provide fleets of durable, unisex-design bicycles specifically made for shared use. These bikes feature components like Shimano gearing, puncture-resistant tires, aluminum frames, and weather-resistant alloy components for longevity and reliability.
  • Smart Lock and Docking Rack Technology: Their system utilizes electronic smart locks that dock bikes securely to racks. These smart locks are battery-powered, with battery levels monitored via their software. The docking racks themselves do not require power or internet and can be installed indoors or outdoors.
  • Cloud-Based Admin Software: Clients can manage their bike share program from anywhere using cloud-based software. This dashboard provides quick access to information and notifications, allowing property managers to track rides, monitor bike availability, and stay in control of their fleet.
  • User-Friendly Mobile App for Riders: Riders access the bikes using the On Bike Share App, which allows for quick and easy checkout with just two clicks. The app communicates with the smart locks to release and re-lock bikes, recording ride data in the system. Users typically need to register and be approved by their property's bike share operator.
  • Personalized Support and Training: On Bike Share provides training and personalized support to clients to help them successfully manage their own bike share program. This includes guidance on setup and ongoing operations.
  • Bicycle Maintenance and Reliability: While users handle daily checkouts, the bikes are designed for reliability in a shared environment. On Bike Share works with property managers to ensure bikes are maintained and operational. (Based on company information, maintenance is facilitated by the client or through On Bike Share's support.)

These services collectively empower properties across Rhode Island to offer a valuable, sustainable amenity to their residents and users.

On Bike Share's model is built on several distinctive features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for properties and an appealing amenity for Rhode Island residents within those properties.

  • Owner-Operated System: A primary feature is that clients (e.g., apartment complexes, corporate campuses) run their own bike share program. On Bike Share provides the "industry-leading bikes and smart technology," along with the necessary training and support, but the daily operation is managed by the property. This gives clients direct control over their amenity.
  • Durability and Reliability of Bikes: The bikes themselves are designed for the rigors of shared use, featuring robust components like Shimano gearing, puncture-resistant tires, and aluminum frames. This ensures a consistent and reliable riding experience for users.
  • Customer Service and Responsiveness for Property Managers: As one property manager noted, their "customer service has been top notch, all of our questions and concerns have been addressed and resolved quickly!" This B2B support is crucial for the success of their bike share programs, ensuring smooth operations for clients.
  • Seamless Integration into Properties: The ability to customize branding on bikes, racks, and the app allows the bike share system to seamlessly integrate as a branded amenity of a property, enhancing its appeal to residents.
  • Convenience for End Users: Despite occasional app clunkiness mentioned by some end-users, the core convenience of having bikes readily available on-site, accessible via a mobile app, is a significant draw. This "first and last mile" solution is particularly impactful for residents.
  • Promotes Sustainable Living: By providing easy access to bicycles, On Bike Share directly supports eco-friendly transportation options, contributing to reduced traffic and a healthier environment within Rhode Island communities.
  • No Power or Internet Needed for Racks: The smart locks and docking racks operate independently of external power or internet, relying on rechargeable batteries in the locks. This simplifies installation and increases flexibility for bike station placement.

These features highlight On Bike Share's effectiveness in providing a valuable and sustainable amenity that benefits both property owners and the end-users in Rhode Island.
