This article will delve into what makes Gerk's Ski and Cycle a notable destination for Washington locals, exploring its convenient location, the services it provides, and highlighting key features that define the customer experience. We understand that for residents of Washington, finding a local business that offers deep expertise and reliable service is crucial for their active lifestyles. Gerk's has a long-standing history in the ski and bike industry, with some customers having patronized the shop for many years, even through changes in ownership and location. The skiing aspect of the shop consistently receives high praise, with staff members like Andy and Kevin noted for their extensive knowledge and helpfulness. Stories of them making things right, even replacing high-end skis ruined by the shop, underscore their commitment to customer satisfaction in the ski department. This level of dedication and expertise makes them a trusted choice for ski purchases, mounts, and tunes. However, feedback on the cycling side of the business presents a more nuanced picture. While some customers may receive pro deals on bikes elsewhere, they seek service from Gerk's for the final build or tuning. Experiences can vary, with some interactions described as less than stellar, particularly concerning initial customer service when bikes were not purchased directly from them. Instances of perceived demeaning interactions, questions about where a bike was purchased, and charges for basic services after a bike was mostly built, highlight areas where the bike department’s approach could improve for customers bringing in outside purchases. Despite these specific concerns, the overall picture from long-term patrons indicates a shop that, at its best, delivers expert knowledge and makes efforts to rectify issues, especially within its strong ski department. For any Washington local, understanding these distinct strengths and potential challenges is key to deciding if Gerk's Ski and Cycle is the right fit for their specific outdoor gear and service needs.

Gerk's Ski and Cycle is a suitable option for locals in the Washington region, particularly for those prioritizing specialized ski services, but with some considerations for cycling needs. For Washington residents, the ski department stands out as a highly recommended resource. The deep expertise of staff like Andy and Kevin, coupled with their willingness to go above and beyond (such as replacing damaged skis), makes Gerk's a top choice for ski purchases, tuning, and expert advice. The positive experience of a customer who bought a full ski setup and immediately experienced improved performance on double black diamonds underscores the quality and knowledge available in this area. However, locals should be aware of the varying experiences reported with the bicycle department, particularly concerning bikes not purchased directly from the shop. While they do offer bike builds and fittings, some interactions have been described as less welcoming or more costly for externally acquired bikes. This suggests that while the shop has mechanics who are good with bikes, the customer service approach for certain bike-related services might differ from the consistently stellar experience in the ski department. Despite these specific nuances, the overall value for locals seeking comprehensive outdoor gear and maintenance is present. For ski enthusiasts in Issaquah and surrounding Washington areas, Gerk's provides a highly knowledgeable and reliable destination. For cyclists, it may still be a viable option, especially for high-end bike purchases through the shop, but communication expectations, particularly for external purchases, might need to be managed. Ultimately, Gerk's Ski and Cycle offers a valuable local resource for those engaging in Washington's vibrant outdoor sports scene, especially if their primary need is for top-tier ski expertise.

Gerk's Ski and Cycle Reviews
Been in the bike and ski industry a long time (raced various ski disciplines, freestyle, junior olympics SL/GS) and cycled competitively (mostly endurance events). Gerk's was my go-to shop locally for many years even when ownership and locations changed hands. The skiing aspect of the shop has been great (purchased 3-4 setups there and had work done of 4-5 sets of pro deal purchased set-ups). Andy knows his stuff and is always helpful, Kevin as well. In fact a high end pair of GS skis were ruined by the shop and they made it right and replaced them (a hard to find GS ski too). I have my reservations with the bike guys though. I get bikes through pro deals because the price is hard to beat, but the service when not purchased through them has been less then stellar. Brought a bike in for my wife to have the final build done and the first thing when I brought the bike in after making an appointment was totally demeaning interaction. Todd even said "what type of bike mechanic stand did you use? this is carbon; you have to know what you are doing" "did you clamp the frame" and "where did you get this bike". Went through with a fitting but the whole thing just felt awkward. Charged us $200 to basically cut the stem (the whole rest of the bike was built up) on top of another $200 for a fit. I get it, we didn't buy a high end bike through them, but also likely won't be going forward. I did however buy a bike for myself through them (>$5k) so it's not like they haven't gotten our business. Bike tunes, and now ski mounts and tunes I'll go elsewhere.
Jun 28, 2025 · Jack FlemingI came from Vancouver for 2 days trip to Stevens Pass with my own skis, and never expected I would end up buying a brand new set of ski and binding and boots after stepping into the store to pump our bike’s tires with my girlfriend🤣.Robert was so great, helpful and really really knowledgeable. Learned a lot from him and I really want to have another big shout of “Thank You” to him for explaining me everything about ski! Btw I went to Stevens the next day right away with the new sets. They worked so perfectly, no falling at all from any double diamonds! They are like my extended legs!
Apr 18, 2023 · Catherine HGerks is amazing and the only ski shop in the Seattle area I want to do business with.I went in for a ski mounting issue (not their fault) and they did everything in their power to help me get back for the next weekend. This included overnighting skis from K2, and offering me a more than fair price for the inconvenience, despite it not being their fault.Gerks is a great shop run by caring, kind, and honest employees. I can’t recommend them enough.
Jan 31, 2025 · Chris SeelyGerk’s is our go-to for skiing and cycling. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. We especially love that we can rent quality kids’ ski gear for the season here!
May 05, 2025 · Sarah ArmstrongCame in to get my board waxed. $27 with tax for the inflated wax. Best prices I’ve found. Super nice staff. Even tightened my bindings because they were a little loose. Was in and out of there in 10 mins. 🤙🏼
