Michigan Bicycle

25909 Coolidge Hwy, Oak Park, MI 48237, USA

4.0
He was incredibly rude to me. I can in just for my tires and he’s telling me $89 for a tune up that I didn’t ask for. Had he been nicer explaining to me the work that needed I would’ve been happy to patronize this small business instead he became grouchy and told me that when I call him back because the other places over charge me he wants me to apologize to him and was fussing at me all the way out the door. He was so nasty abt that that i immediately took my bike back and went to trek on Woodward. There were so kind and they’re only going to charge me $36 for the work they needs to be done on my bike and gave me an estimate and fixed my tires on the spot (they only needed air) if you want some one getting over on you or if you like to be berates for no reason this is your place. - Alena Washington

In Oak Park, **Michigan Bicycle** aims to serve this vital role, providing service and support to the community of cyclists.

The needs of Michigan riders can vary greatly, from basic maintenance to specialized repairs, and the importance of a local business that understands these varying demands cannot be overstated. This store is part of the local fabric, striving to offer a convenient option for residents needing bicycle assistance. As with any local business, individual experiences can vary, but the intent is always to provide solutions for the community's cycling needs.

Location and Accessibility

Michigan Bicycle is situated at **25909 Coolidge Hwy, Oak Park, MI 48237, USA**. Coolidge Highway is a well-known thoroughfare that connects various communities in Oakland County, making the store accessible for residents not only in Oak Park but also from surrounding areas such as Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Southfield, and Royal Oak. Its location on a main road means it's relatively straightforward to find, whether you're coming from nearby neighborhoods or a bit further out in Metro Detroit.

Accessibility is key for a local business, especially a bike shop where customers might be bringing in bicycles for service. While specific parking details aren't provided, a storefront on a main road like Coolidge Highway typically offers street parking or a dedicated lot, aiming for convenience for customers. The ability to easily reach the shop for repairs or quick services is a significant factor for Michigan cyclists planning their visits.

Services Offered

Michigan Bicycle aims to provide a range of services to support the cycling community in Oak Park and beyond. Based on customer interactions, their services primarily revolve around repairs and general bike maintenance.

  • Bike Repairs and Maintenance: The core of Michigan Bicycle's offering appears to be its repair services. Customers have sought assistance for various issues, including tire maintenance and tune-ups. While the details of specific repair packages or a full menu of services aren't explicitly provided, the store clearly addresses common bike problems. One customer mentioned getting a "tune up done in about one hour," indicating efficiency for certain services.

  • Accessory Assistance: Beyond direct bike repairs, the shop assists with accessories. A review highlights help with a "bike rack," where an employee found one and even "installed it for me," showing a willingness to assist with practical cycling needs.

  • General Bike Assistance: It appears the shop handles general inquiries and minor adjustments. The review mentioning tires that "only needed air" and were fixed "on the spot" suggests that they can provide quick, on-the-go assistance for basic needs.

  • Customer Service Interactions: While experiences vary, one positive review noted feeling "comfortable as it was my first time shopping here," suggesting that for some, the staff can be welcoming and helpful, going "the extra mile" for new patrons.

Features / Highlights

Based on customer feedback, several points highlight the unique aspects of Michigan Bicycle:

  • Potential for Quick Service: For certain tasks like tune-ups or minor adjustments, the shop appears capable of quick turnaround times, with one customer noting a tune-up was done "in about one hour." This efficiency can be valuable for busy cyclists.

  • Willingness to Go "The Extra Mile" (for some customers): One positive review praises an employee, Steve, for being "purely the definition of customer service," finding and installing a bike rack, and even offering to send someone to help put the bike on for the first time. This demonstrates a high level of dedication and helpfulness in certain interactions.

  • Local Business Appeal: As a small, local business, Michigan Bicycle offers a community-based alternative to larger chain stores. For those who prioritize supporting neighborhood establishments, this is a key appeal.

  • Varied Customer Experience: It's important to note that customer experiences at Michigan Bicycle appear to be quite varied. While some customers like Steve provided exceptional service, other interactions, as detailed in a negative review, describe rudeness, pressure for unrequested services, and argumentative behavior. This indicates an inconsistency in customer service that potential patrons should be aware of.

  • Focus on Basic Needs: The types of services mentioned in reviews (tires, tune-ups, bike racks) suggest the shop is well-suited for common, everyday cycling needs rather than highly specialized or custom work.
