Gerken's Bike Shop Reviews
My first experience with Gerken’s Bike Shop was on 07/25/24, when I brought in a bike I had purchased online to be fully assembled. Unfortunately, this turned into a disappointing introduction. Upon picking up the bike, I was informed that the frame had sustained scratches — which Gerken’s claimed were due to poor packaging or damage during shipping. However, this was only mentioned after the bike had been fully assembled. No one contacted me beforehand to inform me or ask how I wanted to proceed. Instead, the bike was put together anyway and touched up with paint in an attempt to hide the damage. It felt less like a courtesy and more like a quiet cover-up.Despite this, I gave the shop the benefit of the doubt and returned a few times for routine maintenance. I had a rear brake removed and a set of carbon tubeless wheels installed — and that was the only visit where everything went smoothly. I want to call out Casey by name for doing excellent work on my wheels. He’s the one technician who showed true professionalism, and none of this review should reflect poorly on him.Unfortunately, my final visit on 04/17/25 confirmed that this wasn’t the shop for me. I came in to have a crankset and new pedals installed. The job was completed the next day, and I went to pick it up. Diego, the technician who had done the work, was helping another customer and never acknowledged me. Another employee handed me the bike, and I left. Before loading it onto my rack, I inspected the frame — and found a deep gouge in the top tube, down to the raw metal. I immediately went back inside.Only when I returned and was visibly upset did Diego finally speak to me. He admitted to dropping a tool on the frame — but didn’t say anything at the time and let me pay and nearly leave without mentioning it. To make matters worse, he justified his carelessness by saying he works on “crappy Walmart bikes” all day and handled mine with the same disregard — even though this bike is a $2,500+ investment and something I take great pride in.This experience has cost me an additional $700 to replace the damaged frame and have the bike rebuilt. I won’t be returning to Gerken’s and I strongly advise anyone who cares about their bike — no matter the value — to take it elsewhere. The lack of accountability and pride in workmanship here is unacceptable.
Apr 25, 2025 · BJI would like to express my gratitude towards the staff members (Mr.Casey & Mr.John) that take pride in making a first time customer now a repeat customer going forward for life! This established is located on St.claude catacorner from 24 Hanks store on the McDonald's side past it. I have an Kob Breeze Step Over Electric Bike which I treat this bike like my pet lol! I've notice my pedal was wabbling than it fell off because it had stripped some how off the crank arm. This past Saturday May 3rd 2025, I called around to different bike shop that was near we're I lived and this particular establishment I was greeted on the phone by Mr.Casey which I must say he was very professional and friendly! I explained to Mr.Casey my situation and he said to me just bring your bike in and let "Us" take a look at it....and we will see what we can do for you! This place by no means was hard to find and as I brought my bike in, I was personally greeted by a nice gentleman Mr.Casey in the flesh! Mr.Casey put my bike on this machine sort to say that had cushion around it to prevent any marks or scratches to be left on your bike which I was very impressed! He looked over my bike carefully and notice the problem and explained to me why my pedal was stripped and fell off. As I was waiting for him to return from the back...which was only for a few seconds may I say, I keep on talking and Mr.John answered me back which I thought I was still talking to Mr.Casey which I find was very cool and all! Mr.John was very friendly also and this place had a warm welcoming feeling which I liked alot! As Mr.Casey replaced my crank set within minutes and the price for the part which he has in stock and available with the labor was very affordable than other shops around the area that try to rip you off! I was very satisfied with the service and the attention to detail I received from this established and by the staff members that work there especially Mr.Casey & Mr.John! The inside of this established is very big and clean and organized!I personally would recommend Gerken's Bike Shop to all my family and friends!!!This place rocks and so does the outstanding customer service and the reasonable prices to get you back on the road in no time!
May 05, 2025 · CRAIG JUSBCUSBrought a bike that had been sitting in the basement of my parents rental for years. Found out it was a cheap POS that wasn't worth the work. I brought the bike to have looked over to see if it was worth fixing. They were good enough to do that without charging as well. I may attempt to do some of the work myself and bring it back for the other things. My local friends use and recommend them as well.
