For locals in the California region, particularly those in Santa Barbara, choosing a bicycle store involves considering various factors beyond just product availability. While Open Air Bicycles Santa Barbara offers a broad selection of bikes and services, including popular electric bikes and a range of repair options, it is important for potential patrons to be aware of mixed customer experiences. The store's accessibility in downtown Santa Barbara is a clear advantage, making it convenient for residents to visit for sales, rentals, or repairs.
The store's stated range of services, from basic flat repairs to comprehensive tune-ups and professional bike fitting, indicates an intention to cater to diverse cycling needs. For those looking to rent a bike to explore Santa Barbara, or to demo an electric bike before purchasing, Open Air Bicycles provides these valuable opportunities. However, the provided customer reviews raise concerns about product quality in some instances, the handling of customer service for unexpected issues, and overall professional pride. These experiences suggest that while the store may offer a wide array of products and services, the consistency of service delivery and customer interaction may vary.
Ultimately, a local searching for a bicycle store in Santa Barbara might find Open Air Bicycles convenient for its location and product range, particularly if interested in e-bike rentals or sales. However, it is always advisable for locals to consider all available options and personal preferences, perhaps engaging with the staff directly for minor needs or rentals to assess if the service aligns with their expectations. The experience of learning to maintain one's own bike out of necessity, as described by a reviewer, underscores the importance of a transparent and helpful service approach in the local business landscape. For more complex needs or significant purchases, thorough research and potentially exploring alternative local options might be beneficial to ensure a satisfactory experience.

Open Air Bicycles Santa Barbara Reviews
Poor products, worse service and zero professional pride.I had both tubes rupture at the valve (one within .5 miles and the other within 1.5 miles) after they were installed by this bike shop. There was no impact or any event that caused the rupture; they were either cheap products or poorly installed.I returned to the shop immediately after the first instance (I was literally in walking distance) and was immediately met with accusations that I hit something and the price to fix. Neither employee I spoke took the time to understand my situation and displayed a level of apathy that doesn't lend well to a service based job.Once I repaired the first tire, the other one, (that Open Air had installed) ruptured in the same exact spot within another 1 mile of riding. I didn't bother to go back this time. The one silver lining is that this experience compelled me to learn how to maintain and repair my bike on my own. Thank you Open Air for doing such a terrible job that it led me to learning a new skill!
Nov 27, 2023 · Quincy OswaldThis guy does not deserve your patronage. Rude and disrespectful from the start. Got upset that I took the bike for a spin before I bought it even though his mechanic took my information and credit card. Gave me a lecture about, “how do I know you’re not a thief?”. How am I supposed to know if a bike fits me if I don’t test ride please? He was quick to point me to a lock that was higher quality, and of course more money, than the one I was going to purchase but then again lectured me on how I “picked a bad code” and that’s why it wouldn’t unlock when I went and asked for help a following day. Now I’m stuck with a thick cable around my seat post until I can find someone else to unlock it for me because he didn’t back up his product. One other thing. A friend took me to a cigar shop where I got into a discussion by coincidence with a local bike mechanic. He told me this guy at open air has a bad reputation for treating people like this.I received so much better customer service at e-Bikery Electric Bikes. e-Bikery I definitely recommend. Visit them both and you’ll see the difference.

May 12, 2023 · TimothyEd and Todd are awesome!! I have been shopping around for a year for the perfect bike and right price. These guys are all so knowledgeable, honest and patience. A great store with a comfortable atmosphere. Found a bike for my son at a great price and two weeks later went back and purchased two more of another kind for my daughter and myself! We are all so happy and have left the car parked in the garage as much as possible. The staff really listened to our active lifestyle and helped find all of us the perfect bike. Thanks so much you will always be number one for our family!
Jun 15, 2014 · Michael GuzmanWalked in a couple months ago to try to buy an ebike. Staff person couldn't be bothered to even acknowledge me, wouldn't make eye contact, and kept talking non-stop to his friend. Wouldn't let me break into the convo eitherAfter 15 minutes I left, and ordered a bike online. If you can't say even say hello - you don't want a customer.
